We're all so excited to tune into RTÉ One today at 11 to listen to the story of The Lakes of Ponchartrain, arguably one of the most famous American folk songs to have landed in the canon of classics overseas. The piece features interviews from many artists, including Rhiannon Giddens, interviewed at our New Orleans Annual Conference earlier this year! https://twitter.com/rteradio1/status/1320047401848197125

Today is International Pronouns Day! Referring to people by the pronouns they determine for themselves is basic to human dignity. Being referred to by the wrong pronouns particularly affects transgender and gender-nonconforming people. Together, we can transform society to celebrate people’s multiple, intersecting identities. To learn more about pronouns, why they matter, how to use gender-inclusive language, and more, check out the resources here: https://www.mypronouns.org/

Folk Alliance International, along with a growing number of states and organizations across the US, is observing Indigenous Peoples’ Day 2020 today. The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI), who in 2011 passed a resolution advocating for the renaming of the second Monday of October, continues to encourage United States citizens to recognize and celebrate the heritage of Indigenous peoples as part of the diverse mosaic of American society. In the spirit of that encoura...gement, FAI would like to take this time to formally and gratefully acknowledge the First Peoples and the traditional territories on which we have gathered since our first conference in 1989, in the spirit of ongoing solidarity with the Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island. We’ve also created a playlist of some of our favorite Indigenous artists, which is by no means comprehensive, but we hope you’ll enjoy it and discover some new music today: https://spoti.fi/2GH5HCp 1989: The Micqanaqa’n and the Chumash 1990: The Lenape-Haki-nk 1991: The Kiikaapoi, Peoria, Bodéwadmiakiwen and the Myaamia 1992: The Niitsítpiis-stahkoii , Ktunaxa amakis , Tsuu T'ina and Michif Piyii (Métis) 1993: The O’odham, Tohono O’odham (Papago), Sobaipuri and Hohokam 1994: The Pawtucket and Massa-adchu-es-et 1995: The Cowlitz and Clackamas 1996: The Nacotchtank (Anacostan) and Piscataway 1997, 2013: The Ho-de-no-sau-nee-ga (Haudenosaunee), Anishnabewaki , Mississauga of the Credit First Nation and Mississauga 1998, 2007-2012: The Quapaw and Chikashsha Yaki 1999: The Pueblos 2000: The Erie and Mississauga 2001: The Coast Salish, slilwta tmx (Tsleil-Waututh), Skwxwú7mesh-ulh Temíxw (Squamish), S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lo), Stz'uminus, xmkym and slilwta tmx (Tsleil-Waututh) 2002: The Timucua, Mvskoke, and Seminole 2003: The Tsalaguwetiyi, Shawandasse Tula (Shawanwaki/Shawnee) and S’atsoyaha (Yuchi) 2004: The Kumeyaay 2005, 2019: The St. Lawrence Iroquoians , Ho-de-no-sau-nee-ga (Haudenosaunee) and Mohawk 2006: The Jumanos, Tonkawa, Coahuiltecan and Nmn 2014-2018: The Kiikaapoi, Osage, Kaw (Kansa) and Ohéthi Šakówi 2020: The Atakapa-Ishak, Caddo, Chitimacha, Choctaw, Houma, Natchez and Tunica Peoples, and the Petites Nations.
