Minnesota 4-H Photography is excited to offer another photography challenge to Midwest youth in grades K-13. In this challenge, we encourage you to highlight something that stands out about your town, county, state or travels to another Midwest state. Sexual orientation and gender are important aspects of a young person’s identity. Unfortunately, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT+) youth experience various challenges because of how others respond to their sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. Our Master Gardener Highlight this Month is Rebecca P! She is so happy to be back at the Hortline answer your questions by phone, email, and in person. Rebecca became a Master Gardener in 2019. Rebecca loves being out doors but also likes solving plant issues that arise while working on the Hortline. She enjoys being around like minded individuals and bouncing ideas off others master gardeners. A special program on CPR was presented to the Harvester 4-H club by Kyle Gaines from the St. Charles Ambulance District. 4-H members had an opportunity to practice on CPR manikins/training dummies. Members learned that the most important steps were: Check, Call, and Compress. We were reminded that something was better than nothing and to do the best we can. The Harvester 4-H club did the practice by families to allow for social distancing. Our health & safety committee... did the planning and made the contacts for the program as voted on by the club members when they set goals at the beginning of the year. You can protect local creeks and wildlife by limiting the amount of fertilizers and pesticides you use on your lawn or garden. Excessive fertilizers on your lawn not only hurt your plants they harm the wildlife and ecosystem. At the Extension Office we offer soil testing that will tell you exactly how much fertilizer your lawn or garden needs.
