O holy night, the stars are brightly shining It is the night of our dear Savior's birth Long lay the world, in sin and error pining 'Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth... A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices For yonder breaks, a new and glorious morn Fall on your knees O hear the angels' voices O night divine O night when Christ was born

Jonah is a book about God’s character. God is good to people who don’t deserve it. Yahweh is relentless with His grace. He gives it and pursues you with it. When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it. Jonah 3:10

I haven’t said much about what is unfolding around us. Like you, I am perplexed by some of the things that are happening right now and uncertain of what might happen next. As I process through things, I thought I’d share some thoughts with my church family. To a collection of churches that were socially and racially divided, the apostle Paul wrote: Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate wit...h the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. I’m working my way through this passage during this tumultuous time. I haven’t gotten very far beyond weep with those who weep. On Tuesday, my heart was gripped by the words of a fellow PCA pastor who shared what the last week has been like for him, as a person of color. He mentioned the talk he’s had with each of his three sons. Not about the birds and the bees, but about how they should conduct themselves if/when they have an encounter with the authorities. No matter where you land on the political spectrum, please know that this is a talk that many black parents have with their kids. And, please consider this. Those three boys are our spiritual sons and brothers. Members of our spiritual family live in daily fear and anxiety because racism and injustice exist in this fallen world. Weep with those who weep! I have not written anything re: this current crisis. I don't know what to think. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. For now, it seems like the best thing to do is lament, listen, learn and then try to empathize. I don’t know what it’s like to be a person of color. I don’t know what it’s like to be part of a minority culture. To some small extent, we all know what it feels like to be an other or an outsider. To some degree, we all know what it feels like to be treated unfairly or unjustly. To some magnitude, we all know what it feels like to be little or less than. And so, we can mourn with those who may feel this way most every day. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted. I think that’s where we need to be. Lament, listen and learnHow can we comfort and encourage? How can we carry each other's burdens? What would the Lord have us do? I’ll end with a passage from Micah: "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"

Good morning. We are experiencing a bit of a technical difficulty. We will try to begin the service at 10:30...but we may be a bit late. Stay tuned for the beginning of the live service.
