The Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) has awarded a grant to fund a Junior Historian program for St. Louis County Parks! MHC is the only state wide agency in Missouri devoted exclusively to humanities education for citizens of all ages. It has served as a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971. Families will be invited to participate in the Junior Historian program at Jefferson Barracks Historic Site and Faust Park historic sites. Children wi...ll receive a work book filled with educational and history-related activities relevant to each site. Upon completion children will receive their very own Junior Historian badge. The Junior Historian program will be implemented in late spring/early summer 2021. We are now accepting applications for lifeguards for the 2021 pool season. A current lifeguard certification is a bonus, but training will be provided for those who are not yet certified. Kick-off the holiday season at the St. Louis County Parks Foundation's annual Winter Wonderland fundraising event! Enjoy a stroll through Winter Wonderland without the lines or car traffic on November 18. There will be glow wands for kids, easy parking inside or near the park, and hot chocolate and cookies at the end of the walk. Cost is $20/person. All participants are required to observe safe social distancing. Masks are required for all participants 10 years of age and older.

The Lone Elk Sunset Trail Ride is coming up! Bring your own horse and join St. Louis County Mounted Patrol on a guided trail-ride on October 25 or October 27. Head out to the Thornhill historic site in Faust Park this weekend (October 23 & 24) for an Evening in the Cemetery! Governor Frederick Bates has been at rest for 195 years, and he’s now rested well enough to visit with you at his graveside. Join Frederick, his wife Nancy, other members of the family and a few more resident ghosts in the family cemetery behind Thornhill, in Faust Park. The house will be appropriately decorated and historically dressed docents will explain mourning practices and superstitions of the period. Please comethe Governor is dying to meet you.
