Today Sheriff Will Akin was on hand as two of the newest members of the Sheriff’s Office leadership were sworn in. Major Jeff Self will serve as Undersheriff, and will be responsible for day to day operations of our organization. Captain Rob Hays has been assigned as the commander of the Patrol Division.... Major Self and Captain Hays join us after each having spent 29 years with the Gladstone Police Department where they were both in command staff roles. We’d like to welcome both of them!

Like many events in 2020, the Shop with a Sheriff program has had to make adjustments and adapt to the challenges. This year the Clay County Sheriff’s Office... partnered with the Salvation Army and the The Salvation Army Northland Corps to celebrate and assist the joys of Christmas with our community. Visibility on the roads isn’t that great tonight because of the fog. These photos were taken along 210 Highway in eastern Clay County. Please, drive safe!

This morning in a small ceremony at the Clay County Courthouse, Sheriff-Elect Will Akin was officially sworn in as our next Sheriff by Judge Chamberlain. Sheriff Vescovo and other guests were on hand to pass the torch to Sheriff Akin.

Overnight, deputies arrested three burglary suspects after a chase ended in KCK. Stolen property from the burglary was located at the scene.

Tonight around 8pm deputies located a man in the Liberty Commons parking lot who’d fled the scene of crash on I-35 south of 152 Hwy. He’s been checked by EMS and is now in the custody of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

#WednesdayWisdom Driving a stolen car to a job interview doesn’t necessarily make you dependable. Yesterday we assisted the Missouri Highway Patrol with locating a stolen car in the Liberty area. Two occupants were taken into custody outside of a Staffing Agency where one had applied. We’re glad the stolen car was able to be returned to it’s owner!
