Yesterday C Shift trained on hotel standpipe connections and elevator operations. Crews practiced hooking to standpipe fittings, stretching different hose loads up stair wells and controlling the elevator in fire mode. We would like to thank the Pear Tree Inn on Drury Lane for letting us use their facility.
Rock Community crews conducted department level training today on vehicle stabilization. These techniques can be used to stabilize any vehicle from an automobile to a tractor trailer. Next month, all crews will be training on newly purchased battery powered extrication tools on these same vehicles.

Here is a quick cooking safety tip! Remember to stay in the kitchen when frying food and wear tight-fitting, rolled up, or short sleeves when cooking!
We would like to welcome home Rock Community’s own Chuck Venegoni. Chuck is a Staff Sargent in the Illinois National Guard and is attached to the 106th Aviation 1st Battalion Company A. He is the Crew Chief for his UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter. Chuck was demobilized on Monday and is expected home tomorrow. Chuck had been deployed since March 12th to Camp Belvoir in Virginia. We’ve missed you Chuck and rejoice in your safe return.
THANK YOU to all that donated to the annual Salvation Army toy drive. Hundreds of toys have been collected and donated to children in need. If you still have toys to donate, please take them directly to the Salvation Army located at 3740 Telegraph Road. They will be accepting toys through the end of the day.
