Thank you St. Louis County Police Department for this great idea! This is an IT test to evaluate how well you can identify a suspicious or predatory message. You just received the text message pictured here. Which of the below is the best way to handle this and why?... A) You immediately recognize this is a scam. Delete the message without clicking on the link or forwarding it B) At first you think, "Oh, I am into free stuff." You quickly realize if its too good to be true, it probably is. Delete the message without clicking on the link or forwarding it. C) Being a conscientious citizen yourself, you believe, "What a responsible step by a tech giant! We all have to do our part." After thinking a little more, you realize you are not a customer and they should not have your contact information. Delete the message without clicking on the link or forwarding it.

Pulaski County Sheriff’s Dept has received multiple calls, referencing a possible scam in our area. The caller, a male that has used the name James, advises he’s from the Publishing Clearinghouse and that you have won a large amount of money. The caller then instructs you to purchase a gift card, for a one time fee, so you can access your winnings. The caller is very persistent. This is likely a scam, and no one should release any personal information, account information, or... purchase gift cards. Please do not fall victim to these vultures!

An update to last night’s post: Jasmine and her puppies are safe and sound. We are very thankful for Loving Paws Adoption Center (Pulaski County Humane Society) for taking them in. We have named all the puppies after Deputy’s and 2 of our Deputy’s have already agreed to foster!... If you are interested in fostering and able to donate, please contact Loving Paws for more information. Thank you to the public for their help. We will continue to update as we investigate this case further.

This mama and her 5 puppies were dropped tonight on Superior Road. The vehicle was described as a later model Charger, maroon/purple in color, and occupied by one male and one female. PCSD is asking for the help of the public. Anyone who may recognize the vehicle description or this mama, please contact the PCSD at 774-6196. PCSD Deputies were able to safely secure her and her puppies, and are currently being warmed and belly’s filled.... Thank you for the citizens who called.

Several families were devastated by one man’s actions in January 2018. Dispatch received a call describing a quadruple shooting involving four victims in our small community. That dispatcher was able to quickly and accurately give information to our Responding Deputies who arrived just minutes later. Pulaski County Ambulance District Medics were dispatched and saved the life of victim who gave the dying declaration that sealed the case. Waynesville Rural Fire Department were... requested to respond and helped secured the scene for Deputies, as well as provide assistance to PCAD. Deputies, Detectives, and US Marshals worked diligently to find the subject and solve the case. Correctional Officers of the Pulaski County Jail then ensured this subject remained in custody, awaiting trial for almost two years, so the Pulaski County Prosecutor would be able to make him accountable for the devastation he created. Yesterday, that man, Richard Romel Taylor, was sentenced to 3 consecutive life sentences, plus 90 years, for 2 counts of 2nd Degree Murder, 2 counts of Assault 1st Degree, and Four counts of Armed Criminal Action. We would like to personally thank all that worked on this case, and helped make Pulaski County safer.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, 53 home fire fatalities were reported in 2019. This number emphasizes a couple important fire safety tips. - First, working smoke detectors give occupants early warning to get out of the house before they are overcome by smoke & heat. - Second, have two escape routes from the house. If the primary escape route is blocked, you'll need a secondary route to get out of the home.

We know it’s not 9pm just yet, but before you get all cozie watching tv this evening, head outside and remove all your valuables from your cars, lock the car doors and go ahead and turn that porch light on too.

Beware of telephone scammers pretending to be from Social Security or another government agency. If you receive a scam call, hang up and report the call to the Office of Inspector General or online at OIG.SSA.gov.

Sheriff Jimmy Bench accepted a donation from the Nasty Pulaski event that took place earlier in October. This donation helps purchase equipment for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Dept. Although COVID-19 reduced the numbers, many still attended. Thank you again!!!!
