Significant enhancements to outdoor spaces are a key part of the East Halls Transformation currently underway at Penn State's University Park campus. Pedestrian walkways, recreational zones, and gathering places create a more connected campus and strengthen social interactions among students. A primary goal for this part of East Halls was to provide safer student circulation, which was previously routed through the busy service drive and parking lot. Designed in partnership w...ith DLA+ and Lamar Johnson Collaborative, these outdoor spaces now provide better separation and clarity to student crossing zones, the service drive, and the loading dock without altering the recently renovated dining facility. This is a prime example of prioritizing student safety within a defined budget. We are excited and proud to have received an AIA St. Louis Honor Award, the highest award given, for the design of Adohi Residence Hall at the University of Arkansas! Congratulations to our entire team, including our project partners Modus Studio, Leers Weinzapfel Associates Architects, Inc., and OLIN, on this great accomplishment. Additionally, we congratulate Stephanie Shepard, a talented Mackey Mitchell architect and artist, for receiving a Distinguished Award for her drawing titled Drawing on Solitude.

Our staff rolled up their sleeves on Friday to help build an urban farm in the Fox Park neighborhood of St. Louis for Rung for Women, in partnership with Urban Harvest STL! The site will serve as a hub for free gardening and sustainability workshops for both Rung members and the general public. This week, the Climatron at Missouri Botanical Garden turns 60! Did you know that the famous greenhouse has a special connection to our firm? Eugene J. Mackey Jr., father to our Founder Eugene J. Mackey III, was one of the architects of the Climatron, which became the world's first geodesic greenhouse and later recognized as one of the 100 most significant architectural achievements in United States history. The New First-Year Residence Hall at DePauw University provides students with an exciting new place to call home this fall semester! Featuring pod-style communities, floor lounges connected by a central stair, and a bright and inviting ground floor lounge, complete with a community kitchen and meditation room, this building is one of a kind on campus. The hall is Phase 1 of a campus-wide student housing masterplan and helped set the standards for future construction projects. Solar thermal panels, electronically tintable smart glass, and window sensors that control HVAC in each room are just some of the sustainability driven design features implemented by KBSO Consulting, arcDESIGN and the MMA design team.
