Today, employees of the Sheriff's Office dropped off the last group of toys to the Children Division - Christmas Foster Kids Program. In all, forty participating employees spent nearly $3,300.00 of their own money to help, so foster kids could get some presents at Christmas. If you can afford it, please consider a charity of your choice and help make a difference for someone less fortunate.

Great News! Ronald Stage was located this afternoon by a St. Louis County Police Department officer while on patrol in a park. The Endangered Silver Alert is canceled. Thank you to the sharp officer who spotted Mr. Stage. And thank you to everyone who shared our post this morning.

It is with very heavy hearts that we share this most unfortunate news. Less than one year after her retirement, Karen Medley has passed after her battle with cancer. Karen (pictured left) worked for the Sheriff’s Office serving Jefferson County from November 1993, until her retirement in November 2019. Karen was such an important part of our family and will be missed by everyone. Upon posting her retirement picture last year, even former inmates complemented her professionalism and demeanor (from the other side of the glass)! Several of Karen’s family members have served and continue to serve with our organization. For them and all who loved Karen, we offer our deepest sympathies and condolences.

The city’s collective hearts are broken today as we learn of the passing of our Building Inspector, Joe Detter, along with his wife, Fran, and two other family ...members, in an overnight fire in De Soto. Joe has been with the City of Hillsboro for just under five years, having formerly served as Building Inspector for Franklin County. In his life he was a police officer, a restauranteur, and above all, a servant to his community. Joe had leadership roles in countless community organizations, including the Lion’s Club and the Joachim Masonic Lodge in Hillsboro. The Detters’ legacy will be one of service to their community. The voids they leave will be felt by so many. We count ourselves as blessed for having had them in our lives. Please keep the entire Detter family in your thoughts as they attempt to find their footing after this tragedy.

Our canines and their handlers are such a valuable part of our organization. This morning, Canine Kane and his handler helped locate a suspect that led police from St. Francois County on a pursuit into our County. These dogs and the Deputies who handle them are specially trained for any number of tasks and we appreciate their dedication to their jobs. #JeffCoProud

Kidnapping Update: In reference to the alleged kidnapping that occurred yesterday, we wanted to share that we have evidence that leads us to believe the female is no longer in immediate danger. Both the male and female are known to this organization and have been arrested together in the past for Domestic Violence. The vehicle used in the pursuit has since been recovered along with other pieces of evidence. This afternoon, both subjects fled on foot and are wanted by this organization for other charges. While circumstances could always change or be updated, at this time we do not believe the female is in immediate danger. Our investigators continue to work to locate both parties. Anyone with information may contact the Sheriff’s Office detectives at 636-797-5515

We are sad to announce the passing of former Cpl. Don Cummines. Cpl. Cummines was a great police officer that served Jefferson County with honor. Don paid a heavy price serving our county. In 1998 he was shot in the head with a shotgun while on a Domestic Violence call in Byrnes Mill. Don barely survived. Many of the pellets from the blast could not be removed from his head, and Don continued to pay a price throughout the remainder of his career and life. Don retired in 2009.... For the police that worked for him, he was a cops cop. Cpl. Cummines worked for the Sheriff’s Office from January 1, 1993 until his retirement September 23, 2009. Don was a Medal of Valor winner, co-worker to many, a mentor and a leader to others. Rest in Peace Don. Your brothers and sisters at the Sheriff’s Office have it from here.
