Shortie had this sweet boy this morning. All her calves have been super sweet, and he is no exception!

Our calves don't stand a chance. They are smothered with love from the day they are born. They don't understand even how to be mean.

This is what happens to naughty cows that continually break through fences. Spent half the day fixing a hole in our fencing, enjoying the fruits of our labor tonight.

Chelsea gave us a lovely little boy today. They have their own stall in the heated garage in anticipation of a winter storm coming in tonight.

We went out this morning to milk, and after we were done, I was feeding cookies to the cows. But I was missing a cow, my Clementine. I shook the cookie cup, but she wouldn't come down. She wasn't due until the 29th, and I didn't see her licking a calf, but I went to investigate anyway. To my horror, there was a calf laying on the ground, frozen and covered in frost. I quickly scooped it up and started screaming for Matt to come help me. The calf was pretty lifeless, but let o...ut a small mew. I called Vicki Jones to find out what to do and we went into action. Baby was submerged in a lukewarm tub, and we slowly started raising the temperature. Her temp was so low, it wouldn't even register. After an hour, we got her out and started drying her. We made a tent out of blankets and put a blow drier under it to make her warmer. Matt turned up the thermostat and we cycled towels through the clothes dryer. Matt laid under the blankets with her to use his body heat to help, while Kaitlyn, Hailee, and I milked Clemmie to get colostrum. We warmed it up on a double boiler to 100 degrees and started slowly syringe feeding her. We got 15cc of colostrum in her and she was tuckered out. We let her take a nap while we opened Christmas presents. When we went to check on her, she was awake and trying to stand. We went and grabbed Clemmie and brought her down to our heated garage and brought baby down. Clemmie immediately mooed her mama moo and started licking her. Baby stood up and went looking for the udder and we heard the sweetest sound. Baby was sucking and swallowing. We decided to name her Edelweiss, because the Sound of Music is awesome, and she was so small and white when I first found her. Life is never dull, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
