Are you interested in becoming a Coast Guard diver? Applications are being accepted for E4s (w/ E5 EPQs completed) and E5s (not above a cut for E6) interested i...n entering the Diver (DV) rating! The Coast Guard has used divers since World War II, training with the U.S. Navy under the Office of Strategic Service. At that time, divers or frogmen were the heart of the Operational Swimmer Groups deploying to the European Theater and the Pacific Theater to include China, Burma, India. While the program has a rich history, it only became an official rating in 2015. Prior to this, diving was a collateral dutysomething you did in addition to your regular duties as needed. U.S. Coast Guard Divers are assigned to one of three Regional Dive Lockers (RDL) located in San Diego (RDL-West), Honolulu, HI (RDL-Pacific) & Portsmouth VA (RDL-East). The primary mission is to provide support to unit commanders’ and partner agencies subsurface requirements. Diver and subsurface capabilities can be performed in all global regions and environments utilizing SCUBA and Surface Supplied Diving Equipment. Prior diving experience is not needed and members need not be tour complete! Last week DV1 Garrett Brada and DV2 Dylan Wilson spent time speaking to recruits and non-rates about the Diver rating during a career fair at U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May (Official). Those applicants who successfully screen and graduate from DV A-School at the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center (NDSTC) will change in rate to DV. TL/DR (actually please read... but still long) Bottom like, we are STILL HIRING!!! Once you are ready to go to MEPS for your physical and ASVAB testing, there will be additional levels of screening in place prior to entering the MEPS facility and during the physical in order to identify those applicants who could potentially be infected. If for any reason you are not feeling well, please let us know so that we can reschedule you. The same goes for when it’s time to leave for boot camp. There will be additional layers of screening both at the MEPS and at the training center in order to ensure the safety of other recruits and the training center staff.
