Next NMC online show: a youtube premiere of several brilliant STL artists, Parisian (Ian Jones), and Oxherding (Fitz Hartwig) in collaboration with visual artis...t/photographer, Aaron Owens. Oxherding/Owens have created a piece of streamline electronic sound matched with visuals, that by duration and subtle focus-shifting, create a hypnotic manifold. The special quality of soundscapes is that they are both simple and utterly complex at the same time, and this works deeply as such. /// Parisian only plays out like twice a year (if event that), and the last set I saw him perform was at Blank Space probably shortly before the pandemic. It was a packed room and everyones attention was locked in. Parisian navigates a grimey-influenced dance sound that draws from cut-up mechanical rhythms spliced with glitched vocal fills, to moody, lush synthetic instrumentals. His set for this online show was documented by Foveal Media's Bryan Dematteis and Chad Eivins in the basement of the Kerr Foundation this winter....It's a real banger. The Black Artists’ Group of St. Louis: Creation Equals Movement documentary will have a work in progress screening at the St. Louis International Film Festival ...(SLIFF), on November 5-22. Founding BAG members Malinke Elliott and Oliver Lake, along with Producer George Sams and Director Bryan Dematteis will participate in a Q&A following the documentary screening. SLIFF will be held online this year.
