Public Service Announcement We had a scam incident occur on July 27, 2020 within Montgomery County we want everyone to be aware of. An area resident received ...an out of state phone call from someone claiming she had warrants for her arrest that needed to be taken care of. On July 27, 2020 two men arrived at her residence dressed in what the victim described as possible law enforcement uniforms with the campaign style hats. They were driving an unmarked black Ford Crown Victoria. Both men had a slight Middle Eastern accent. They advised the victim she had several warrants for her arrest steaming back to a vehicle that was stolen from her years prior. They convinced her she needed to withdraw 15,000 dollars from the bank, and wanted her to wire the money to an address in New Jersey. These men followed her to her bank while she withdrew the money as they waited in the parking lot. Thankfully the victim became suspicious of the situation and did not give or wire the money to anyone. Reminder: If you have a warrant; Law Enforcement does not call you requesting money, nor will we show up asking you to withdraw money from your bank. When someone has a warrant, they are arrested and would need to bond out through the jail. If you receive this type of call don’t give them any information or even verify any information they may already have. If someone shows up at your house claiming to be law enforcement, you can always ask for ID or call local law enforcement yourself to verify.

We’ve had numerous calls about the natural gas smell north of Wellsville on Hwy. 19. This smell is normal for there. It has a sewer or propane gas smell. (Nat...ural gas is odorless so the smell is added). You’ll see a fenced in area just outside of town; located along the highway. Located within the fence is a gas line that has a release valve which releases some gas into the air. Under certain conditions the odor stays lower to the ground to where the smell is stronger. No need to be alarmed at this location. Thanks for all the reports on this. It’s better to be safe, than sorry!
