Here are a few tips of how to properly dispose of ash and coal from your fireplace and firebox. Every year the fire district responds to house fires because ashes were improperly discarded.
October monthly fire training for our volunteer firefighters involved water supply operations. Much of our county is rural meaning fire hydrants are spread out and water has to be brought in via water tankers during a fire.
THROWBACK THURSDAY: A crash on I-70. Fire district personnel used the "Jaws of Life" for the first time to cut patients out of the vehicle.
Today at approximately 1:09 p.m. Boone County Fire District firefighters were dispatched to K and K Wood Products for a reported commercial structure fire. Fire units quickly arrived on scene to find heavy smoke showing from the business. Firefighters were able to get the fire stopped without significant loss of property. 4:10 pm - BCFPD volunteer firefighters continue to work multiple crashes this afternoon due to slick roadways. Please take it slow as you head home from work and school. Most incidents are occurring north of I-70.
8:15 AM - MoDOT Central Missouri District traveler map showing mostly clear roads north of Columbia on U.S. 63. Slick/icy spots being reported. The fire district is responding to several crashes along 63.
Light rain, sleet and freezing rain has moved into Boone County and roads are becoming slick in spots - especially north of Columbia. Please leave extra travel time this morning, drive slow and get to your destination safely.

Boone County FPD volunteer Firefighters are currently on scene extinguishing a fire from the core of Boone County’s historic Old Burr Oak Tree. At approximately 8:49 this morning fire units were dispatched to Burr Oak Road for a lightning strike. Boone County Firefighters arrived on scene quickly to find smoke coming from the tree.
