Notice, the roads in the cemetery will be closed for a few days as the crews reseal them. This scheduling was unexpected as the company had another project fall through that allowed it to jump the cemetery ahead of the line. The cemetery is not closed, but you cannot drive on the roads until they are dry. You must park on the street and walk into the cemetery. As a reminder, the roads are paid for and maintained by the cemetery, not the city of Belton. Indeed, the cemetery is not part of the city, but rather a private non-profit corporation completely funded by the selling of plots. It is private property, not a public park. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We remind everyone that the cleanup of the cemetery post Memorial Day will begin on Monday, June 14, 2021. Celebration of the holiday was a great success. Please remove any items not attached to gravestones before Monday if you want to retain them. All items not attached to gravestones will be removed and discarded. The Board of Directors or any employee take no responsibility to return any item to the owners. Unfortunately, allowing non-attached items to remain would make it too costly to mow and weed the cemetery on an ongoing basis. We trust no one wants an overgrown cemetery.

Ready for Memorial Day.

The Belton Cemetery will be open for this Memorial Day weekend as always. At various times, board members will be there to assist in finding a loved one’s grave.

ANNUAL CLEANUP: In preparation for the mowing season, the cemetery will begin clearing items off any gravesites from April 1, 2021, that are not permanently attached to tombstones. The Board of Directors does not take responsibility for returning any item to its rightful owners. In general, nothing should ever be placed on or around graves that would prevent the gardeners from mowing and trimming the grass. This applies to all graves as it would be prohibitively expensive to hire staff to accommodate any exceptions. However, for Memorial Day weekend and two weeks afterward, the cemetery does allow larger bouquets, wreaths and other temporary ornaments to be placed on grave sites. However, two weeks after Memorial Day, these decorations will be removed.
