This is an awesome article about the Schnaider Brewery which occupies the entire city block between Mississippi Ave, Missouri Ave, Chouteau Ave and Rutger St. They had a huge band stand that is where the St. Louis Symphony got their start. You could drink beer and they offered food for you to eat. They had cottages that you could stay in while you were there. The wealthy people from the City would ride their horses or buggies to the country to drink beer and eat. The building that currently houses Hamilton's Steakhouse, the private dining called The Bourbon Room, the event space called Pop's Garage and Charleville Brewer use to be a stable that took care of their horses offered repair services for buggies if necessary.
