A representative from the American Red Cross contacted the Schuyler County Sheriff's Office and asked us to reach out to our community to see if there may be volunteers willing to help with the current situations in Texas and Louisiana. They advised there are many types of volunteers they need. Here is the the main part of the email they sent: I’m writing to request your help in finding volunteers from your community to help with home fire responses, sheltering and other dis...aster response needs. As you probably know, 90% of the work of the Red Cross is done with volunteerswithout them we are simply unable to reach our neighbors in need. There are three things you can do to help us reach more of your community and our fellow Americans: 1. Let me know the names and contact information of anyone you know who might be willing to help by: using their phone and computer to help from home, or interviewing disaster victims over their phone to open cases and then drop off relief supplies, or helping in shelters in disaster-affected areas at home or across the country. 2. Share the attached flyer in your circles, and 3. Post the attached photo of that flyer on your social media accounts! The Red Cross is anticipating a much more active hurricane season than usual this year and with COVID, we have completely revamped our sheltering procedures to enhance the safety of our workforce and clients. One of the consequences of the changes we have made is that we will need many more shelters to lower their population density and maintain health-precautions. This means that we need more shelter staff than usual as well. Any volunteers you can refer will make a vital difference to our fellow Americans who are impacted by disasters this year.

July 29, 2020 Chip Seal Project Set to Begin for U.S. Route 136 in Schuyler, Scotland and Clark County MACON Weather and schedule permitting, tomorrow, July 30, crews will begin a sealing project that will extend through Schuyler, Scotland and Clark County. The project goes from Downing and runs to Medill, approximately 30 miles. Crews will begin work on the east end of Medill and go west.... "Crews will be applying liquid asphalt that helps seal off any cracks that may be in the road, and will then apply small aggregate, said MoDOT Area Engineer Amy Crawford. Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work zones using a pilot car while the work is completed. Please obey all work zone signs and personnel. Message boards will be up to notify motorists of the upcoming work. "Motorists need to slow down on roads where sealing is in progress, said Crawford. Missouri Department of Agriculture Asks Residents to Report Unsolicited Seed Shipments JEFFERSON CITY The Missouri Department of Agriculture has received reports from residents of unsolicited seeds being delivered from foreign countries such as China and surrounding areas. Missouri’s announcement follows several states who have also reported packages of these seeds being delivered across the United States. Consistent with nationwide reports, the packages were labeled as jew...elry, specifically stud earrings, bracelets and other accessories. It is important to take steps to prevent the introduction of invasive species into Missouri to ensure safety of the environment, livestock and plants. The full risk associated with the seeds in question is unknown at this time. However, the seeds could be an invasive species that has the potential to destroy native plants and damage crops. Invasive species can also introduce diseases to plants and may be harmful to livestock. If Missouri residents have received unsolicited seeds, the following guidance applies: Do not open the seed package. Do not plant the seeds if you have opened the package. Submit an online report to USDA verifying you have received unsolicited seeds. Do not dispose of the seeds, packages or envelopes until USDA provides further guidance. The Missouri Department of Agriculture is playing a cooperative role in USDA’s investigation; however, USDA is leading the effort from the federal level. USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is also working closely with the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection to prevent the unlawful entry of prohibited seeds and protect U.S. agriculture from invasive pests and noxious weeds. If opened, place seeds in a sealed bag and contact the Missouri Department of Agriculture’s Plant Industries Division by phone at (573) 751-2462 or by email at [email protected].
