Kids diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes have similar stories. They are rushed to the hospital. Children are very sick as their bodies are literally starving to death and organs are being affected. Kids receive the emergency medical attention they desperately need to save their lives, but find out that life as they knew it is forever changed. They will need to fight daily battles. Today, we delivered more Brave Boxes to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Brave Boxes t...hat are overflowing with education, info, tools and empowerment encouraging optimistic attitudes, and if applied lead to improved thoughts, actions and outcomes, helping kids and families grow stronger in body, mind, and spirit. Support matters, and is a key component to good care. We hit a huge milestone of 4,001 Brave Boxes delivered today. Loads of love and support! See more

BIG NEWS! An additional Type 1 Champions Scholarship is being offered. The Landry Hodges Scholarship! We're all so excited! The Hodges family is joining in the giving spirit to help a support the education of a fellow Type 1 student. Landry Hodges is a 2015 graduate of Leavenworth High School and a 2020 graduate of The University of Mississippi. He was the first recipient of the generous Barry Dan Harsh Memorial Scholarship in 2016. The scholarship will be awarded to a f...ellow Type 1 student who embodies the same fighting spirit as Landry does. Landry is not only a Type 1 warrior, he is a cancer survivor. Landry and his family are endeared to the Kansas City area because they were stationed at Ft. Leavenworth for 7 years. In 2010, Landry was diagnosed with Type 1 at age 13 and was treated at Children's Mercy Hospital where he received a Crate Full of Courage (now called Brave Box). The significance in that gesture immediately signaled to the Hodges family that they were not alone. Kids With Courage was a source of information and encouragement. The Hodges family consider it a great honor to offer a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving student who shows a strong commitment to community, leadership, academics and athletics. The kindness and generosity of this Scholarship offering is special. Full circle opportunity. Thank you amazing Hodges family! Be sure to help us spread the word about these scholarship offerings to high school seniors in our area. Direct those interested to go to www.kidswithcourage.org, Programs Page for complete Scholarship Information details, how to apply and more. Or email us at [email protected]

We delivered another 27 Brave Boxes to Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City this morning. Type 1 diabetes is hard for kids and their families. We've taken on the job to care, to be a blessing, bring tools, encouragement and empowerment to those who battle each day. 3,897 children and their families have been given tools to help, to feel less scared, to feel a little less overwhelmed, given direction, hope, courage, and definitely not alone in their journey. Thank you to our supporters for helping us make this happen!

NOVEMBER IS DIABETES AWARENESS MONTH...

Kids With Courage Foundation 13.10.2020

Feeling thankful, grateful and blessed today and always as another caring supporter, asked for donations on Facebook to Kids With Courage for their birthday, in honor of someone, or just because and we just received a check. Thank you for caring! Your donations will matter for our brave superheroes with Type 1 diabetes who fight daily battles. You are making a difference directly in their lives. We appreciate you helping us fulfill our mission and bring awareness to Type ...1. A heads up to our supporters that unless we happen to 'see' your thoughtfulness when you're posting about your fundraiser, we don't know who's being so kind. It's a little embarrassing when we don't know who to thank, but the paperwork that comes with the gift doesn't let us know. For that we are sorry! Please understand our predicament and know how important it is that we share and express our gratitude. We know we can't do our important work without the big hearts of caring people like you. Thank you!!!

Dr. Max Feldt, Children's Mercy Hospital Endocrinologist, and wife, Nancy Sparlin have been supporting our cause for a very long time. This time, Nancy has come to our rescue by funding, supplying and making 50+ fabric face masks for us to put in our Brave Boxes. Nancy thought of everything. They're cute, functional, washable, and even put removable filters in the masks by providing extra protection. And, she ensures us that more will be on their way. Thank you Nancy for t...hese adorable masks, and Dr. Feldt for always championing our cause and finding more ways to help! We will start putting masks in Brave Boxes later this year so we can ensure the health, safety and well-being of those we serve, our vulnerable kids battling Type 1 diabetes. A special thank you to Kellen G for modeling one of the new Superhero themed masks! We've got the best volunteers!!!

Happy Anniversary to Kids With Courage! On September 17, 2007, 13 years ago today, the first Brave Box (then called, Crate, Full of Courage) was delivered to a 7 year old little girl, newly diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at Children's Mercy Hospital. Hearts were broken that day, as they are every day when a child is diagnosed and learn that they will be fighting every day to stay alive. Our Founder, Daphna Bottcher did not want any other family to leave the hospital as sc...ared, lost, alone, devastated, lost and as overwhelmed as she was 14 years ago when her child was diagnosed. To date, 3,825 Brave Boxes have been delivered bringing empowerment, overflowing with helpful tools, critical education, provide hope, courage, and help kids and families grow stronger. Now in the entire states of Missouri and Kansas. Many ask how they can help. Today, because of these challenging times that are especially hard for small not for profit organizations like ours, we'd love it if you would register a team for the Superhero Fun Run/Walk. Run/Walk with friends, family neighbors, bring awareness to Type 1, or honor someone you know battling it. With your help, we can continue coming to the rescue of newly diagnosed kids and families. Questions? Email us at [email protected] Thank you FRIENDS OF COURAGE who have been part of our journey, and helping to make our important work possible. We can't do this without you!

When the hospitals get low on Brave Boxes at the same time, you need a little help from your friends to deliver. 30 more to Children's Mercy (KC), 24 more to St. Louis Children's, 15 more to Wesley (Wichita). Thank you Giegerich family for coming to our rescue!!! When hearts are broken because of a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis, something extraordinary is needed. 3,825 total Brave Boxes made with love and delivered.
