Radio Communications is CRUCIAL in our industry. Dispatchers communicate with Emergency Responders over a two way radio. Once a call is received via 911 or Administrative lines, the dispatcher will dispatch the emergency (or non-emergency) call over the radio. After the call is dispatched, the dispatcher stays in contact with the Responder(s) in this manner until the call is complete. Currently, we use a countywide VHF Simulcast Radio System. This system went online ...with two tower sites in 1996 and was expanded to include six additional tower sites and a microwave component that ties the sites together to help boost a better, stronger radio system in 2008. This system serves 11 user agencies throughout the county and collectively these agencies employ over 300 First Responders and support personnel. In September the County Commission awarded the 11 user agencies CARES ACT funding to update and replace radio communications for our First Responders. This update will replace the VHF mechanism to a P25 digital platform. The 911 Center maintains the eight towers to include upkeep at each tower site. Each tower site utilizes a backup generator and houses radio communication equipment dedicated to that site. Dispatch is responsible for electric to each site, generator maintenance, pest, weed control, and general tower maintenance. We generally budget around $20,000 each year just for Electric for the tower sites. #WCECC2020 #MicClicksForDays #dispatchlife #FirstRepondersRock
