YAYYY! It’s #MemberMonday and time to meet another member volunteer of Assistance League of Kansas City. This week, it's our pleasure to introduce you to Pam, o...ne of our newest members! Meet Pam: I’m a new member of Assistance League of Kansas City, but I’m not entirely new to the organization and my experience is one of irresistible appeal! My Mom, current ALKC president, Rita Pickering, has lived her Assistance League passion before me for the past eight years and finally, this summer, I decided to jump into the thick of things, rather than just observe from the sidelines. As a retired teacher, I had long witnessed the excitement in the eyes of young students clambering off the bus from Operation School Bell, and the hope infused into hurting families thanks to the big hearts and deep pockets of Operation Child in Need. Some of my best friends are school counselors and social workers; having ALKC and these outreach programs, as well as the I’m in Charge curriculum, in their toolboxes is what makes their job do-able. In my post-teaching life, I’ve had the opportunity to pursue a personal passion for the connection between vision and learning, thanks to my position as the vision therapist for Vision Source Eyecare. In my role with this wonderful, philanthropic minded, family owned company, last November we worked to establish a business partnership between ALKC and Vision Source - Kansas City North to provide eye exams and eye glasses at a substantial discount for Operation Child in Need. That taste of making an impact in our community, coupled with the draw of like-minded friendships, and the integrity of this organization, finally made membership irresistible! How are WE keeping YOU safe during your visit?? LOTS of ways! We have closed our waiting room and the few chairs we do have are properly distanced. We do a remote check in - call from your car when you arrive. When your room has been sanitized , we will come out and get you. We have hand-washing stations and hand sanitizer for use. If you are coming to shop, just give us a call when you arrive After anyone tries on a frame we ask it be placed in our wall baskets so they can be sanitized - anytime you try a frame on, you can be assured it has been thoroughly cleaned. And obviously we all wear masks and ask you to do the same. Our number one priority is your health and safety! Eye care because we care!! %

This is the second tick removal from an eye we have had. It’s 2020 so I blame it on that. If you are having eye issues - see an eye doctor. People often think we only do exams for prescriptions but our docs do lots of medical exams as well and we have all of the proper equipment to treat medical needs.
