Check out CBB in the news. Nurse KK and the folks at Care Beyond the Boulevard are a great partner organization of Uplift. They are a team of nurses, doctors, medics, and pharmacists who provide street medicine to the homeless of Kansas City.
Very cool! https://mymodernmet.com/horia-manolache-the-prince-and-th/
Coats... I literally just cried a bit! (this is Ross).... Late last night at the warehouse, we realized that we don't have as many winter coats as we have in past years at this time. Many of the organizations that do the big coat drives have suspended their drives due to COVID. We knew that the coats would come, but we discussed getting the word out for coat donations before the cold really sets in. So we said a small prayer last night that we would some how have enough coats this winter for our dear friends. Fast Forward 14 hours later: I just got a message from one of our drivers, Tom Carter. He wanted to let me know that he and his friends just delivered 257 coats to the Uplift warehouse this afternoon. They also delivered boots, underwear, socks and a bunch of other donated items. We had NO IDEA that Tom and the Knights of Columbus at Holy Trinity had organized a coat drive at the parish. We had NO IDEA that this prayer was already being answered through Tom and the good people of Holy Trinity in Lenexa! Thank you to HT, the KofC, and Tom for supporting Uplift and the homeless of Kansas City. 257 coats will go a long ways!
The word compassion, in its Latin roots, means to suffer with.
Saturday morning sorting crew! Keeping all of the donations flowing so we can get them out to the folks on the streets. Thank you!... If you'd like to sign up to come work in the warehouse, go to our online signup at https://signup.com/go/oKLQNDo
Winter is coming soon. The homeless use candles for heat and warmth, but also for light and even sometimes for cooking! We have some volunteer "candle makers" who take unusable candle remnants and melt them down to create tin can candles. We need used tin cans. Shallow ones, deep ones, anything up to about 20 oz. cans or so. Uplift drop off hours are listed on our web site at www.uplift.org Thank you for your support of Uplift and the homeless of Kansas City!
