At a young age, while participating in an overseas trip to visit friends in the United States, Yuima Mizutani, Doctoral Candidate in Counseling, was inspired to explore cultures and international populations different from her own. She further researched the "third culture kid" background experienced by Asian American college students as part of her dissertation, "Searching for a ‘Home’: Examining the Experiences of Confucius Asian College Students with Third Culture Kid Backgrounds,. There is no more important time than now for K-12 students to learn firsthand about the role of elections and voting in civic life. Thanks to our staff colleague Lynn Voss for continuing the efforts of Kids Voting USA, Inc. in Missouri by partnering with 15 school districts! https://blogs.umsl.edu//20/10/19/umsl-kids-voting-program/
As we continue to mourn the loss of our dear colleague, Matthew Davis, we can all cherish what we know or have heard of the joy, power, and love Matthew brought to the education of so many. We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear colleague, Dr. Matthew Davis. Dr. Davis was a trusted advisor, mentor, and inspiration to many, and will be very missed. He was a dedicated scholar and advocate of social and racial justice in education, and advised many students in these areas, especially students of color. His legacy will live on as he remains with us in "love, study, and struggle."
We are #UMSLProud that two of our alumni were recently honored at the St. Louis American 33rd Annual Salute to Excellence in Education Scholarship & Awards Virtual Gala for their dedication to ensuring equity in schools. Congratulations to Dr. Sharonica Hardin-Bartley of the School District of University City and Dr. Doris Graham! #UMSLCircleEd https://blogs.umsl.edu/news/2020//19/education-awards-2020/
