Friday Pharmacy Feature!! This week’s feature is Maureen Knell, clinical professor of pharmacy who has a strong tie with pharmacy AND UMKC School of Pharmacy!

Allow me to introduce to you APhA-ASP Region 6 Member at Large, Hadia Malik. Hadia is a P2 at UMKC School of Pharmacy. She was a part of our Pharmacy Assurance Program, which helps students enter college with a direct path to apply and succeed in our Pharm.D. program. From PAP student to Member at Large, we’re always proud of her accomplishments!

At the School of Pharmacy, Kun Cheng, Ph.D., strives each day to improve lives through his research into novel therapeutics for cancers, liver fibrosis and Alzheimer's disease. The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists recently recognized his achievements by naming him a 2020 AAPS Fellow. P4s Jamie Sullivan, Kathryn Rechenberg, and Brooke Jacobson have made it to the quarterfinals for the ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Challenge!! As fourth year students, this completion has been the perfect way to reconnect during a busy rotation schedule and highlight our clinical interests of pediatrics, infectious disease, and cardiology. Outside of the classroom and rotations, we are proud clinical interns at Children’s Mercy Hospital and appreciate the support of our cowork...ers. We have enjoyed the challenge of applying our didactic coursework to each adrenaline-packed 25 minute round. We would have loved participating live at the ACCP’s Annual Meeting, but we have learned how to communicate effectively over Zoom in the limited time. SOP PET WEEK DAY 5! The final day of pet week, thanks for following along and getting to know staff, faculty, and students through their pets! Meet Dean Melchert and Chief Brody!... Not only is Dean Melchert, well, the dean...he’s also a professor in the division of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences! He’s been at UMKC since 2010, and previously held the position of Chair of Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. His daughter named Chief Brody after a character in her favorite movie...any guesses which movie?! See more

SOP PET WEEK DAY 4! Meet Steve McDonald, his wife Noel, and dog Laney! If you are a prospective student, current student, or past student, chances are you’ve talked with Steve. What we’re saying is... Steve knows everyone! As our Admissions Coordinator, he is always available to help students on their path to pharmacy school. He’s located in Columbia where he lives with his wife, three kiddos, and one very cute dog!

SOP PET WEEK DAY 3! Dr. Leigh Anne Nelson and her pup PJ! Dr. Nelson is a professor of psychopharmacology at UMKC for both our pharmacy and medicine programs. She also provides clinical pharmacy at an adult inpatient acute care unit! PJ is her rescue Maltese pup, and she has another one at home (nearly identical!) named Magoo!

PET WEEK DAY 2! Meet KC campus Office Support Assistant, Mary and her dog Strider! 2 years ago when her daughter found a little puppy who was too sick to stay in an animal shelter, Mary opened her home to him and Strider quickly became a member of the family. He’s one of the best pets she’s ever had!

UMKC SOP PET WEEK! This week, we want to introduce you to some of our faculty and staff...and their pets! From now until Friday, we’ll share their photos and some fun facts so you can get to know them. We’re starting off with Dr. Emma Meyer and Bear! Bear is 15 years old. Dr. Meyer is a NC native (Go Pack!) who enjoys cooking and Orangetheory classes. Dr. Meyer has a deep appreciation for the value of human-animal interaction due to her background in veterinary pharma...cy. Dr. Meyer came up with this great idea to get to know faculty/staff, so we can all thank her for the cute pet pictures this week See more

How SWEET it is to be a P2 today! Our Class of 2023 is celebrating their Professional Dedication Ceremony tonight. We are so proud of them all for getting to this important moment in their Pharm.D. journey. Bring on the white coats!
