Our latest display is a companion to our "Raising Your Voice, Casting You Vote: Music and Suffrage" digital display. Music has long supported the fight for the right to vote, and we've gathered resources from our collection that have been a part of the 100+ years struggle. https://library.umkc.edu/news-events/voting2 Additionally, visit UMKC Libraries guide to Be An Informed Voter. https://libguides.library.umkc.edu/voting-research
Happy National Fossil Day! Our Music/Media Library marimo wanted to learn more about its heritage (did you know there are billion-years-old #algae fossils?) so we explored the Richard L. Sutton, Jr. Geosciences Museum on the 3rd floor of the library. We found blue-green algae, cephalopods, seaweed, stony sea lilies, shells, ferns, and more, all fossilized. The Geosciences Museum is a real gem on #UMKC’s Volker Campus, open M-F 9-5. (They also have an amazing asso...rtment of minerals!) Of course, masks and distancing are required while in the library. But what about music? asked Diana Moss, who always tries to stump us at the reference desk. Well, we have the delightful Fossiles, from Camille Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals. (We gotta love a piece about #Roos!) Diana really enjoyed the Bugs Bunny version we found online, but we also have study scores and recordings available in our collection, including online sources. What’s your favorite fossil? We've shared our faves. #UMKLibraries @umkcartsandsciences #LibrariesOfInstagram #NationalFossilDay #geosciences #fossil #fossils #marimo #mossball #MarimoOfInstagram #CarnivalOfTheAnimals See more at https://cas.umkc.edu/geos/opportunities/geosciences-museum/

It’s been quite a year, but we are so happy to celebrate our Marimo Mascot, Diana Moss, who became a part of the Music/Media Library last October. Traditionally..., there is Marimo Festival in Japan this time of year, too, so there are lots of reasons to party! (Safely, of course, with masks and social distancing.) #StaySafe #HaveFun #UMKCLibraries See more

What better way to celebrate autumn than with nature itself! Want to learn the classic "Autumn Leaves"? Check out our collection of Real Books, arrangements by instrument (sorry, no leaf arrangements ) and many, many, many versions on CD. Just search the catalog! Need help but not on campus? You can call, chat, email, or even set up a Zoom meeting to get reference assistance.
We will be saying goodbye to our physical display version of Shining a Light: 21st Century Music From Underrepresented Composers soon so be sure to come take a look!
