I just realized that we never really made this announcement publicly. Only to our current families. U.school will be open this fall in At Home mode. We got a little creative with our tuition model to make it more affordable and flexible. Membership in u.school will cost $50/mo. That gives you and your student access to u.school staff, systems, and software for planning, structuring, recording, and reflecting on their learning. We use a system called Headrush that allows our ...students to track, reflect, and record their learning no matter how big or small. It could be a one-day, ad hoc, rabbit hole research project or a for credit course at a community college. Either way the student has the ability to capture the learning and tag it so that it fits into a longer narrative about their learning. We believe strongly that learning happens all the time and everywhere. So we have built a system to try and recognize and capture the broad world of learning that all humans participate in. We want students to see that their music lessons, vacations, curiosities, interests, and passions are just as important and formally structured classes. With that said, we also know that students enjoy being open to experiencing new things and having their world view opened up. So the second thing we do is offer a changing slate of what we call, Learning Opportunities. Some of them look like workshops, seminars, book clubs, experiments, activities, etc. We don’t call them classes because it is too limiting. We want them to be student-centered (most of them come out of discussions with students about what they are interested in). We offer these Learning Opportunities on an Ala Carte basis. The prices vary by their length and frequency. I’ve probably gone on for too long already. I have a habit of that. If you would like to take a look at the Learning Opportunities that we will be offering this fall: https://u.school/learning/

u.school students and families, In light of the needs of the community to Flatten the Curve and for the safety of our students and staff we have decided to switch over to "u.school At Home mode starting after Spring Break (March 23rd). Until further notice we will no longer meet in-person. Luckily the u.school philosophy should transfer very well to learning at home. The teachers will spend the next few days collecting resources and ideas for new Learning Opportunities that can be done at home. Many students have already been working on Learning Opportunities that will translate to At Home mode. We will also create some simple instructional videos for explaining to families and students how to continue to Reflect and Record using our Headrush app and other tools. Look for those resources to be announced soon.

Yesterday, our art students got to see the "Ubuhle Women: Beadwork and the Art of Independence" exhibition at The Springfield Art Museum and hear South African Co-Curator Bev Gibson explain the mission of the work and some of the pieces. Really it was so amazing it's hard to put into words, we would highly recommend you go see this exhibit while it is in Springfield.
