Seven Tribeta members, and our faculty advisor, spent the weekend at Reis Biological Station in the Mark Twain National Forest for the NC-2 BBB District Conference. Braving the rain and cold, students had the opportunity to present undergraduate research and hear about research done by students from Missouri, Nebraska, and Kansas. 4 students presented their research posters, and 2 students gave an oral presentation. Jewell students were incredibly successful, bringing back 3 ...awards for student presentations! John C Johnson Award for Undergraduate Research (poster presentations) -First place: Sam Fulte (Development and Characterization of an In Vitro Dual Species Model of the Human Gut Microbiome) -Third place: Emily Dema (Investigating the Role of the Transcription Factor HSF-1 in the Caenorhabditis remanei Immune Response to Bacterial Infection) Frank G Brooks Award for Undergraduate Research (oral presentations) -Second place: Rose Galetti and Kiara Bradley (Field Tests with Clay Models Show that Aposematism is More Effective than Background Color Matching in Caterpillars) Thanks to the Missouri Western State University chapter for hosting!
