It's strange to be starting this early, and the girls are definitely disgruntled being locked up without the boys! I've separated my bantam Cochins and Silverudds so they can start clearing for early spring eggs. Turkeys are just nosy!
My new babies were more interested in eating than having their photo taken, but I am SO excited about these guys!! Ayam Ketawa, the laughing chicken. It looks like I have 3 roos and one pullet, look for hatching eggs and chicks next spring! Thx, Delia! https://youtu.be/uXia8cuwJYY
I love when people send baby (and teenager!) pics of chicks they've hatched from us!
Bantam Cochin are adorable little feathery fluffballs. They also have fabulous personalities and make the perfect snuggle lap chickens. This is Fred and Ethel. Fred is devoted to her and they are never more than 2' apart. I love watching them make their way around the yard with Fred finding good things and sweet-talking her. Fred has some fabulous tail feathers too!
Why Silverudds Blue? It started with me looking for a green egg for my basket. Silverudds (erroneously called Isbar after their creator's death) were the only purebred layer of green eggs in the US (not only do they lay green eggs but breed true for them) - but I couldn't find any! Greenfire Farms had them, but they were SO expensive (and not a good source for quality birds I later learned) and eBay was sketchy at best if I wanted to breed them. This led to a lot of research into the breed, and a 10 hour trip for my first babies. Look at that green egg, though. So worth it!!
