Learn about our your instructor for the weekend Jon Tigert! Jon Tigert found swing dancing at the tender age of 15 and never looked back. Now, somewhat older than 15, Jon shares his knowledge of the dance all over the United States and the World. You may know him from his roles at events such as Lindy Focus, Lindy Fest, The Canadian Swing Dance Championships, The Chinese Lindy Hop Championships, Herrang Dance Camp, The International Lindy Hop Championships and many more. Known for his concise language, historical knowledge and and infinite supply of dad jokes, Jon’s classes are immensely informative and entertaining. Beyond teaching, Jon is often seen behind the microphone as a well known MC and host, behind the computer as a DJ, or behind the drum kit playing and singing with various bands.

Learn about your instructor Rafa Pustelny! Rafal Pustelny is a vibrant young dancer and instructor who is passionate about traditional dances from all around the world! Rafal moved to NYC in 2010 and there studied American Jazz dance forms, including Lindy Hop, Charleston, and Balboa. He quickly established himself as one of the top dancers in NYC, and has since earned acclaim in the international swing dance community. His wide knowledge and skill in various styles has help...ed him win top placements in international competitions and has created opportunities for him to teach around the world. Rafal’s expertise and passion for dance shine in the classroom; he uses his technical prowess, upbeat sense of humor, and innate ability to connect with people to distill high-level content into accessible pieces that elevate multiple aspects of his students’ dancing. Rafal continues his own dance education by studying Tap, Clogging, Hungarian folk dances, and Polish folk dances. As a performer, he works with several regional groups, including Polish American Folk Dance Company, The Vanaver Caravan, Project Connect, Harvest Moon Hoppers, Swung Furies, and Wild Rhythm, as well as community events and corporate parties. A Frankie Manning Foundation Ambassador, he teaches and performs locally with You Should Be Dancing studios and The Harlem Swing Dance Society. Learn about your weekend instructor Ana Lisa Sutherland! Ana Lisa Sutherland is a whole lotta energy stuffed into a little package, and she brings it all to the floor! She began dancing early in life in California. There, she competed in Ballroom and Hip Hop before (accidentally) falling in love with the African American swing dance known as Lindy Hop. Nowadays, she can be found competing, teaching, and sharing her love of Lindy Hop wherever she goes. Since 2008 she’s travele...d the country to compete and learn swing dancing from its original legends and current-day champions. She holds multiple titles from top weekend events such as Lindyfest, Lindy Bout, Camp Jitterbug, Lindy Focus, and Lindy On The Rocks. Her recent performance highlights include the 20th Anniversary Jump Session Show and as a standing member of the dance team Hella Black Lindy Hop at the Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing. Ana Lisa believes swing dancing is a cultural experience that allows its participants to connect with the roots of this African American historical dance, and that there is a place for everyone within it. Thus, she loves pulling from historical sources and the greats that have come before, as well as incorporating newer forms of dance from her continued explorations in dance. In the classroom she strives to inspire other dancers to be authentically themselves on the floor and encourage everyone to get a lil weird. She helps her students approach each dance and class as if anything could happen and helps them to unlock the unique conversation they can have with their partner and the music.

Learn about your instructor for the weekend Jenna Applegarth! Jenna found swing dancing in 2004 in her small local scene of Wenatchee WA. Since then she has spent countless hours expanding her dancing repertoire and sharing her love and knowledge of these dances with others. Her energy and passion create the perfect environment for learning. Jenna has attended, coordinated, and taught various workshops and exchanges all across the globe. Some of her favorite highlights are pe...rforming at Benaroya Hall in The Jump Session Show and teaching for Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing. Above all else she believes that learning to dance should be fun, and rooted in the music and history. With over 15 years of teaching/coaching/training experience, she loves finding new ways to connect with other dancers on the floor and in the classroom and to create challenging yet applicable lessons in the classroom.
