The Strength Parlor 26.12.2020

Happy New Year! 2020 was unique. It was one of the few times in recent history where every human on earth was affected by a singular disaster. At quick glance- few of us were positively affected, most of us negatively, yet some of us unbearably. Understandably so, most are writing this year off but don’t forget to take time to appreciate the good. Each of us had memorable and life developing moments that could easily be overshadowed. Just like training, life isn’t always ...a bed of roses but the trial and tribulation survived in the valley is necessary for our development and destination amongst the peaks. A pandemic wasn’t the common thread that any of us ever hoped for but there truly has been much unity despite division and need to distance. If anything, we all have a greater appreciation for life as we have become much more aware of our immortality. Make 2021 the year that you begin living in greater appreciation. Appreciate your life, family, friends, neighbors, job, hobbies, body, nature and world around you more. Appreciate those like you and those completely opposite. Search first for the common ground and the differences will be far less superior in the end. Be present and live this year like it’s potentially your last. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your support. The Strength Parlor is beyond blessed. Somehow this small gym has found a way to thrive and grow during a time where it was frankly more difficult to even survive. You stuck with us through far less than ideal circumstances. At one point, we even deconstructed the gym to ensure you all had the necessary equipment to continue training at home. You all put in the time to modify your home, continued training alone, video’d for distance coaching and ADAPTED. Show me your five closest friends and I’ll tell you who you are. We all have heard at least a variation of this quote before. Fact or fiction, the message is wise and logical. Have you ever thought about this before? HOMEWORK: ... List the five people whom you spend the most time with and think about their most prominent traits of character. Obviously list the good but dare yourself to list the bad as well. Now think about your own strengths and weaknesses. Do you notice any crossover? Although we don’t need to learn details of the speck in your friend’s eye, we would love to hear about your introspection. The goal isn’t necessary to become aware of a log in your own eye but simply to reflect. Exercises like this often lead to greater thanksgiving towards those contributing more to your life than you realize. Other times, we are encouraged to make necessary changes. Her firstborn, Maverick, is a gym favorite so we can’t WAIT to meet baby Ledger soon. Katie is a bit past the halfway mark! When considering training options during pregnancy: 1 Stick with what your body is already adapted to. Discuss with your doctor if you are thinking of trying something new. ... 2 Listen to your body. People differ wildly and pregnancies are no different. Take it day by day. Modify training on the fly if necessary. A bit too little is typically better than a bit too much. 3 Keep intensity and volume moderate. Now isn’t the time to focus on hitting PRs but lifting an arbitrary maximum of 10Ib is the other end of the spectrum. It’s all relative. When in doubt, resort back to number two above.
