Is there a hotter item right now than the PlayStation 5? Do you know what happens when something is hot? Scammers capitalize. Over the last couple of days, our Department has taken several reports for individuals purchasing the PlayStation 5 on "OfferUp." The seller requests a payment outside the OfferUp app and refuses to allow the buyer to pay cash. Once the victim paid the requested amount, they were provided with an address in St. Peters for pick-up. The buyer showed up ...to pick-up the PlayStation 5, only to learn that the address is bogus. How can you protect yourself? When purchasing an item online through an app, always check the "Help" section for information on how to avoid scams on that particular platform. You should only use the payment methods recommended by the platform. Also, some platforms will allow you to view the sellers transaction reviews/history. If the seller has no visible history, it should be a red flag that the deal is too good to be true. Lastly, ask the seller to meet at your local police department to complete the transaction, especially for expensive transactions. If the seller refuses to meet at a local police station, there is a very good chance it is a scam. #PS5 #scam #ScamAlert
St. Charles County law enforcement agencies are working together to prevent vehicle theft. As we increase our efforts to reduce this from occurring, we are asking residents to lock their cars and remove valuables so thieves are not tempted to steal from you. Please remind your neighbors and share this post with friends so that we can prevent these thefts! #HelpUsLockOutCrime
Have you talked to your child about what to do if they get lost in the store? In the park? At an event? In the neighborhood? If you haven't already, talk to your kids about how to identify safe strangers if they are ever lost. When you go into a new environment, ask them where /who they would go to for help if mom or dad isn't around. Praise children (or even create a reward system) for correct answers. This could be a fun game for care-givers to play with their kids and will also keep them safe.
