Congratulations to Assistant Investigator Nicolas Rohner, PhD, who received an NIH Director's New Innovator Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This prestigious award, from the High-Risk, High-Reward Research program, supports unusually innovative research from early career investigators. The Rohner Lab's research focuses on metabolic dysfunction and adaptation in cavefish and its implication for human metabolic diseases such as diabetes. https://go.usa.gov/xGFQ2 #NIHHighRisk

How and why do organisms evolve through natural selection? Hopi Hoekstra, PhD, employs genetics to understand the process. Join us on October 27 for a virtual BIG IDEAS lecture titled "Nature's Palette: The biological significance of color" featuring Hoekstra, an HHMI Investigator at Harvard University. The online event is free but registration is required. http://bit.ly/2ZhPDdB

The Rohner Lab made it to the cover of Nature Ecology & Evolution with their recent study on cavefish resilience and immune system evolution. The work, which examines how immune systems evolve with few parasites around, was led by former postdoc Robert Peuss, PhD. Check out the article here: https://rdcu.be/b5JCo
