Eddie Van Halen, songwriter and founder of the band Van Halen, passed away today at the age of 65. Eddie was born in Amsterdam and moved to Pasadena, CA in 1962 when he was 7 years old. In 1972, Eddie (along with his brother, Alex) formed the band which would become "Van Halen." They quickly began playing at well-known clubs and by 1977 signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records. In 1992, after being one of the most successful rock acts of the '80s, "Van Halen" won... a grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocal for the album "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge." They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 and Eddie was ranked seventh on the VH1 list of the top 100 hard rock artists of all time.
