NEA continues to advocate for public schools and the need for them to open safely. When NEA Executive Director was asked what can parents do she responded join... us, join us in advocating for our schools to get the resources needed to open safely. There’s nothing easy about this, it will be hard but we need to work together to do what’s best for everyone! See more

It was a difficult bargaining season, but our contract has been ratified and the BOE approved it on Tuesday. Thank you for all of the support!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all of the amazing educators out there! When I say educators, I mean everyone who helps run a school! Also, Happy Nurse’s Week to all of the incredible nurses out there! And, I can’t forget the secretaries! Happy day to you too!! Thanks for ALL you do for the kids of Springfield! They are so lucky to have you!

If your dues are taken through payroll deduct, please be looking for an email from MNEA this week regarding reauthorizing your membership! If you don’t reauthorize, your membership will have to be dropped this fall. After payroll deduct, any other type of payments will get an email to reauthorize. Also, please make any updates like personal email, switching schools, or retirement. Thanks so much!!

Statement to the press: As a teacher, my priority is the safety of students and fellow educators. Greene County has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Missouri. Teachers were not engaged in the front-end of COVID-19 response planning and have been responding to district plans as they are released then modified. This has led to a confusing array of overlapping instructions from Springfield Public Schools (SPS). Our recommendation is to follow guidance from the Centers fo...r Disease Control (CDC) to limit unnecessary gatherings. We are asking SPS to utilize the virtual and online tools to communicate with staff. Educators should be free to make individual decisions about entering SPS buildings to receive equipment as needed. As educators, we are committed to using all our abilities and ingenuity to meet the challenges of school closure and help our students. We are all in this together; Springfield teachers, nurses, secretaries, paraprofessionals, custodians, bus drivers, and food workers stand ready to help ensure the safety of students, families, and each other.
