The Aladdin needs YOU to help it get onto the Endangered NO more list..... Right now we are on the endangered list, the beautiful building is not being repaired or maintained by the current owner, and needs your help, and your activism to make sure it is preserved.

2019 HKC Most Endangered List Part 1 Historic banks. Corner commercial stores. Old gas stations. Historic apartment buildings. Places we pass by so often we no... longer notice. But these places face threats everyday perhaps more so because we’ve grown accustom to seeing them. That is why Historic Kansas City manages the Most Endangered list to highlight important historic buildings, districts and landscapes that are in danger due to threat of demolition, poor condition, neglect, alterations, poor maintenance, redevelopment pressures, inappropriate development or insensitive public policy, or lack of funds. Many historic places throughout the city are endangered. The endangered list is intended to provide a wide exposure for the value and plight of these historic resources, in the hope that interested parties within the community can come together to provide concepts and solutions which will return these assets to a vital use while preserving their historic character. Reach out to local leaders. Let them know these buildings are important to you. Since its inception 23 resources have been saved. The Historic Old Northeast area HKC’s Most Endangered List: The area includes a group of neighborhoods that housed judges, doctors and captains of industry wh...o built the foundation of early Kansas City. Today, historic and beautiful homes still line the many blocks of these neighborhoods. However, some neighborhood commercial services are left to find new uses, as the retail landscape of our country is changing, and more and more business is done online. The Aladdin Theater, 6044 Truman Rd., is a beautiful Moorish style theater designed in 1927 by the Boller Brothers architectural firm, and is one of a few remaining Boller Brothers theaters in the Kansas City. Over the years, the building has served as a music venue, chapel, and hosted retail vendors including a pharmacy, a candy store, a barber shop, and a restaurant. In 2015, a local family fell in love with the Aladdin and sought its preservation. To date, they have established the Save The Aladdin campaign, applied for listing on the National Register and for HKC’s Most Endangered List, established a partnership with leaders in the Blue Valley Neighborhood Association to help get the word out about their efforts, and they are currently trying to raise money to file for 501c3 status. See their efforts here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/savethealaddin/posts/?ref=page_internal Unfortunately, only an insufficient number of formal protections prevents these forgotten gems from being lost forever. In the last few years several notable structures and cornerstones of this historic neighborhood, including commercial structures along Independence Avenue, have been lost, and many more are being threatened without the protection of a comprehensive designation that encompasses all of the eligible historic resources. On HKC’s Most Endangered List since 2016, our hope in keeping this building on the List is to support the efforts of this group and that the owner might be encouraged to finally maintain the property or sell.
