St. Louis Literary Award 28.06.2021

Book lovers--informal poll--looking for suggestions for the 2022 (not a typo) St. Louis Literary Award. Past awardees include W.H. Auden, Chinua Achebe, Tom Wolfe, Stephen Sondhieim, Joyce Carol Oates, August Wilson, Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood, Edwidge Danticat, this year Michael Chabon, next year Zadie Smith. The committee's looking for suggestions of writers whose work is deeply humane, distinguished, substantive.

St. Louis Literary Award 25.05.2021

TONIGHT: Open to the public starting at 7:00 p.m. (CST). While this is the kickoff to the 2020 St. Louis Literary Award the Saint Louis University Campus Read of Michael Chabon's The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clayparticipants to tonight's Zoom (see link below) talk do not need to have read the novel. The Campus Read virtual book talks and programs throughout the year are open to the general public. Left Bank Books is offering 20% off to all Campus Read participants.... SLU Art History professor, Bradley Bailey will discuss his article, "O Superman: The Many Faces of the Man of Steel." In this lecture, a selection of contemporary artworks and performances in which Superman is featured as a signifier will be used to illustrate the broad range of responses that this most familiar of all superheroes has elicited, as we ask the question: is Superman the icon truly immortal, or is his invulnerability ultimately dependent on the strength of the belief system that he upholds?
