Resurrection Season has taught us to move and to mourn, to pray and to protest. Thankful for the words of our clergy who faithfully bring us a prophetic message. We hope you’ll join us on Sundays at St. John’s!

Extended Birthday Greetings!! Y’all show love for the Minister of Music and Might, Dr. Duana Russell Thomas With her permission, we are sharing this prosaic tribute to the good Doctor Herself, ... BY. HER. SELF. Because nobody else could do it. We claim rest for our beautiful Black Queen and fearless leader in our Beloved Community. - One day, I will tell the story about my 50th revolution around the sun. I will remind you of the hip surgery that I endured alone, because of COVID, followed by the burying of my mother two days later. I will speak of the joy of returning to work in a new position, only to find that I might have bigger health issues to address. I will tell you how I fought for months to get a mammogram. I will share how I got the call on December 18, 2020, in the middle of my final, telling me I had a subtype of breast cancer the day before I would be one of the first people in Missouri to receive the COVID vaccination. I will talk about the shock of later finding the other breast was involved and that I also had a genetic factor that predisposes me to several other cancers. I will proclaim the goodness of God as family, friends, school, work and church were supportive even though 98% had no idea of what I was going through. I have the right people in my life y’all. I will weave together the intricacies of managing damage to my home while catching COVID, graduating, celebrating my daughter’s graduation and moving her home-just in time for the bilateral mastectomy, hysterectomy and removal of ovaries. One day, I will tell the story Because in my story- there is delight, and not the devil, in the details. I can’t explain it right now, but one day, I will do it. I will tell the story. For now, know that my babies and I are doing well. I am still recovering from surgery and I do not know my exact course of treatment, but the outlook is promising. Just know, for whatever reason I have made it another year. And I don’t think I was kept just to fight cancerI believe I have more preaching and teaching and leading and mothering and caring and loving to do. I write these words with hope in my heart for the trials that all of you often go through, without saying a word. Be encouraged. And to Dr. Duana I sayHappy Birthday! #GiveUsThisDay
