Did you know that the titular figure from our Judith and Holofernes by Giorgio Vasari was inspired by a Sibyl from the Sistine Chapel? Lucky for us, Explore St. Louis' Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition features a large scale reproduction of the Libyan Sibyl, on view right here in St. Louis. If you find yourself in a Renaissance state of mind, a trip to SLAM followed by a visit to America's Center to see them both could be in your future. The silver inlay on this bottle is brilliantly highlighted against the black background. The bottle is composed of a zinc alloy that turns black when bathed in an acidic solution. Originating in the city of Bidar in India, this type of vessel is known as Bidri ware. It bears the type of floral decoration that is a major theme in the arts of the Islamic courts of India. #STLArtMuseum #IndianArt . . .
