On President's Day, here is a look at a special horse given to President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933. New Deal was presented to the President by Senator Benn...ett C. Clark on behalf of 118 admiring friends. When FDR saw the horse he remarked "He's certainly a beauty." The book "Famous Saddle Horses and Distinguished Horsemen" by Jack Harrison says: "Senator Clark told the President the enterprising Missourians had been engaged for more than a hundred years in developing the most outstanding of this purely American breed of horses and directed the President's attention to a number of the more famous Champion saddle horses bred in Missouri, including the great champion of them all, Rex McDonald 833." This photograph shows the presentation at the White House. The caption reads: "The saddle horse, "New Deal," a present to the President from friends in Missouri, being received at the White House. With Mr. Roosevelt are Representatives Cochran and Cannon and Senator Clark."

Il m'apprend à donner et non à prendre, dans le plus grand respect des autres. - Quand il fait la grosse voix et qu'il me répète à l'infini : Regarde vers l'avant dans la direction où tu veux aller !" Il m'apprend l'importance de se fixer des objectifs et de ne jamais les perdre de vue pour les réaliser. - Quand je demande de passer à l'allure ou au mouvement supérieure et que mon instructeur dit que je ne suis pas prêt, il m'apprend que dans la vie il faut toujours respecter son rythme et ne jamais brûler les étapes. - Quand je tombe et que je remonte, j'apprends qu'il y a toujours des revers, des moments où on s'emballe, mais l'important c'est de se relever plus déterminés qu'avant. - Si je retiens mon souffle pendant une reprise et qu'il me dit en plaisantant respire ! Tu es violet !"Je comprends qu'il faut laisser couler les émotions pour s'en débarrasser. - Quand à la fin du cours je suis content du travail accompli et que mon instructeur me ditBravo, remercie ton professeur je sais qu'il ne fait pas référence à lui même mais à mon cheval. - Maintenant vous, vous qui regardez passer un cavalier en selle, continuez à dire que l'équitation n'est pas un sport car c'est le cheval qui fait tout. I kept my horse We rode many miles, won many shows, and we spent hundreds of hours side by side. Now you’re old, you’re retired, and you’re my old man. ... I kept my horse when he went lame- every damn time. I kept my horse when I fell off - it wasn’t his fault anyways. I kept my horse when I thought it shouldn’t be this hard- I didn’t know that’s how I would learn. I kept my horse when he told me he couldn’t be ridden anymore - because I know compassion. I kept my horse when I was broke- because sometimes times are tough. I kept my horse when he couldn’t stop hard and spin fast because I could see that he still would try If I asked but he shouldn’t. I kept my horse when I bought a new one- 3 actually, because he’s irreplaceable. I kept my horse when I wished I had room for one that was sound- because I owe it to him. I kept my horse when he was costing me more money to feed then any of my riding horses, because money isn’t everything. When his legs had enough- and all he could bare to carry was his own weight, I still kept my horse. When his career as a riding horse was over- I knew I had to keep my horse. No one owes this horse a retirement except for me, and shame on anyone who selfishly convinces themselves otherwise. I owe him so much more for what he has done for me, but I plan to try and make it up to him when he has nothing more to offer me. Because that’s how it should be be
