Rolla Public Schools 14.11.2020

Congratulations to Mrs. Carmel Dare, Chef/Instructor for Rolla Technical Institute’s Culinary Arts Program, on being selected to join the 2021 Class of Fellows with the Association for Career & Technical Education (ACTE). The ACTE National Leadership Fellowship program is designed for CTE educators in ACTE and assists individuals in further developing their leadership skills in CTE and their involvement in professional associations. The program also provides an opportunity fo...r CTE educators to become familiar with and participate in the processes used by policymakers in the development and implementation of laws, regulations and other public policies at the local, state and federal levels. During the program, Fellows identify, train and motivate a cadre of leaders who continue to position ACTE as a leader in developing an educated, prepared, adaptable and competitive workforce. In summary, the ACTE Fellowship Program is an instrument to provide professional development, policy knowledge and leadership development. We are excited for Mrs. Dare as she enters her fellowship and proud to have her representing Rolla Public Schools, Rolla Technical Institute, and Career & Technical Education. See more

Rolla Public Schools recently received 5,000 free point of care COVID-19 tests from the State of Missouri to serve symptomatic students and staff members. The tests are anterior nasal swabs, which are only inserted inch into each nostril. Results from these rapid tests are obtained in 15 minutes. The implementation of this method of testing will hopefully allow students and staff to return to school more quickly with negative test results. Since both staffing and physical s...pace requirements are limited in district buildings, Your Community Health Center has generously agreed to administer these tests on behalf of Rolla Public Schools at their testing tent at 1081 East 18th Street, next to Regal Forum Theater. There is no need to call ahead for an appointment. The testing tent is open from 8:30 am to 4 pm. Symptomatic students and staff members are encouraged to test prior to attending school to help minimize exposure in the buildings. Those who present symptoms to the school nursing offices during the day will be given the option to visit YCHC, or any of our other community providers for testing. Tests administered at YCHC will have no out-of-pocket costs for the student or staff member, but any insurance or Medicaid coverage will need to be presented at the time of the visit to reimburse YCHC for procedural costs. Questions regarding testing for staff and students can be directed to [email protected]. Due to changes in MSHSAA rules, school districts in Missouri will no longer be permitted to livestream post-season games on their own platforms. Links will be posted on the Bulldog Athletic Website for all championship games when available. This Friday’s Varsity Football game (Rolla v. Capital City) can be viewed at this link for a $10 fee: https://mshsaa.tv/?B=203682 We apologize for any inconvenience, and plan to continue to livestream as many home, regular-season games as possible.

October is National Principals Month! Throughout the month we are highlighting our outstanding building leadership and sharing some fun facts about them, their hobbies, and talents. Today we are recognizing Mrs. Sheri Norman, Assistant Principal at RHS. Mrs. Norman has worked at several campuses in the district and her kindness and positivity shines through in all she does. Enjoy getting to know Mrs. Norman through her Q & A! Q: What did you want to be while growing up?... A: I have always wanted to be a teacher. I had so many wonderful teachers that I admired while I was growing up, and I wanted to be just like them. But, if that didn't work there was a Plan B. I wanted to have my own sketch comedy show like Carol Burnett, or Sonny and Cher. Q: What superpower do you wish you had? A: I wish I had the ability to grant wishes. I love making people smile! Q: If you could do one other job in the district, what would you do? Why? A: No question - I would be a teacher! I still miss it! Q: What's something you always say? A: "Don't let your cheese slide off your cracker!" Q: What 3 career lessons have you learned? A: 1. Make relationships a priority, whether it is with students, staff, or family. Relationships matter. 2. Listen. People don't necessarily need for you to agree with them, they may just want to feel they are being heard. 3. I had to learn to be okay with not always having an immediate answer. I used to think I had to know everything about everything. As a result of a small shift in my mindset, I opened myself up to seeking out other perspectives and opinions that I may not have otherwise considered. Q: What is your hope for your students this year? A: My hope that before the year is finished, they can have some degree of normalcy. Q: Any fun facts you would share about yourself? A: I was Pancake Queen my senior year in High School. It wasn't as glamorous as you might think, but I did get a crown! I can drive a stick shift. I won the first, RPS School Administrator Go-cart Race! Thank you, Mrs. Norman for your leadership and dedication at Rolla High School! We appreciate you! #RollaBulldogs #NationalPrincipalsMonth
