The RAD-Planning 'bumper sticker' slogan (if we had one) would probably be "if the scanner costs more than the building that houses it, *those* are the spaces we specialize in." While we love all of radiology (including I.R.), nuclear medicine, and radiation therapy, we have a particular soft spot for MRI, and for safety in MRI. So it's a great honor to be able to share with you a paper just published by RAD-Planning's Tobias Gilk, "MRI safety: Siting and zoning consideration...s". The journal normally charges $31.50 to read or download a copy of the paper, but now through November 26, 2020 if you use this link, you can get a copy of the paper for free! https://authors.elsevier.com/a/1btMM3o9LcCFkz We hope you find the paper helpful as you're planning your next MRI project, and we hope that you call on RAD-Planning to help you make it as safe, efficient, and effective an investment as possible.

After more than 2 years of work, we are thrilled to be able to share with you that the US Department of Veteran Affairs Imaging Services Design Guide publication, developed by RAD-Planning, is now available! The new publication, released on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, replaces the 2008 Design Guides for Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and MRI (which our team also wrote much of), and is 2.3x the size of those previous three guides, combined! The new Imaging Services guides (for s...pace planning, equipment planning, and facility design) provide guidance based on contemporary clinical uses, industry trends, latest codes and standards, and life-cycle considerations for facility owners / operators. In short, it is the single most comprehensive planning tool for radiology departments in the U.S. The Design Guide contains guidance for individual modalities (from X-ray to PET/MRI), suites, and overall department configuration. Available resources include adjacency planning tools, suite and department layouts, narrative on design criteria and consideration, and extensive scale drawings, including 3D computer models, of 30 different patient care and support spaces within Imaging Services. The Imaging Services Design Guide is available for free download at https://www.cfm.va.gov/til/dGuide.asp

New VA Design Guide Uses FGI Imaging Classification System "As with other VA design resources, the new Imaging Services Design Guide will be available on the VA website for free download. It has nearly 600 pages of narrative, diagrams, dimensioned drawings, engineering criteria, and information about fixtures and equipment associated with dozens of imaging rooms. The primary developer of the new VA guide was RAD-Planning of Kansas City, Mo., who partnered with the Innova Group and Henderson Engineering to complete the work." https://fgiguidelines.org/fgi-bulletin-14/

The new VA Imaging Services Design Guide is scheduled to be released today (though it may take a bit for the VA to get the website updated with the new document). RAD-Planning is honored to have directed the rewriting of this very powerful tool for the planning of radiology, nuclear medicine, and MRI facilities. https://www.dotmed.com/news/story/52376

It is with a sad heart that we post the passing of one of our studio leaders, Doug Boyd. Doug’s roots run strong and deep throughout the KC AEC community, from his time as the Missouri State Architect, to his leadership roles at HNTB, ACI-Boland and for the last 10-years at RAD-Planning A proud K-State graduate, Doug was a true architect in every sense of the word. He was a friend to many and a strong mentor to the architects working with him. Doug, loved his family and p...roudly displayed photos of his children and grandchildren on his desk, phone and laptop. Doug brought joy to many, with his sharp wit and laid-back style. His spirit will always be a part of the studio at RAD-Planning and will he be remembered throughout the KC architectural community. We look forward to celebrating Doug’s life with his family, friends and associates later this year.
