Liquid Drain Cleaning Products Are they safe and effective? There are many products sold in local hardware stores that claim to unclog even the toughest clo...gs. Unfortunately, many of these products don’t do what they say, while others use chemical agents that are harmful to your drain lines. First, let’s discuss what happens when you pour a product down your drain, but the clog doesn’t budge. Now you have copious amounts of this product sitting in your drain crystalizing. Often, the final result is a drain line that has to be replaced, instead of the quick cleaning that could have taken place originally. The other end of the spectrum is where the chemical agents eat through any clog in your drain then the drain itself. Once again, you are left with a costly repair instead of a simple drain cleaning. There are a couple products that we have found to be safe for your drain, including Obliteroot and Orange-Flow. Obliteroot is used in your main sewer line to clear roots for a period of 6 months 1 year. This product is used in conjunction with a standard drain cleaning service and is completed by your technician. Orange-Flow is a degreasing agent that can be used within a drain itself and around your house for cleaning. This product is provided by your technician, but you will use it at your discretion. We do offer both of these products as add-ons for our drain cleaning services. At this time, we do not recommend utilizing any store-bought chemicals in your drain line. Rather, discontinue use of the clogged drain and call a licensed Kansas City plumber.
