At this time masks are no longer required for entry into the YMCA or during practice for members and visitors, due to the expiration of the Emergency Orders and guidance from the CDC. Of course, you are welcome to continue to wear a mask as you see fit and YMCA staff will still wear masks for a little while longer. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.... - Sensei

Sorry for the late notice but a personal issue came up and I need to cancel class.
Due to weather and road conditions the YMCA will be closing at 4pm today We hope to see everyone back on the mats Wednesday night. Stay safe and warm
I hope everyone had a great New Year and I am looking forward to getting back to practice this January. Unfortunately we can not start this Monday, January 4th, as planned due to an exposure to someone that tested positive for COVID before Christmas. So now our first day of class will be January 9th, when we have our Kagami Biraki ceremony. I have updated the calendar to reflect this.
This Saturday is our Kagami Biraki ceremony, a time of renewal and rededication. If you can attend in person, virtually, or in spirit; we will be celebrating the event with sparkling cider and mochi while reflecting on the past and looking towards the future of our Aikido and dojo. One of the things I enjoy most about Aikido is the way that it is about you remaining in or taking control of a situation. This is a time to reaffirm that and remember that sometimes the best answer is to enter and not retreat, to blend instead of trying to directly force change. Your choices define you and not the choices of others.
This is what happens when realistic sparing weapons and two months of sword work collide. Enjoy the video of us letting off some steam during the holidays. Pray for our bank accounts as we now know where we can purchase these weapons.
Reminder that tonight will be our last class of 2020! We will re-open the dojo on January 4th with our Kagami Biraki celebration on January 9th. We want to wish you a very Merry Christmas from our family to yours and cheers to a happy and healthy New Year! ... See you on Jan 9th!

Class Update: The YMCA is scheduled for re-opening Monday May 18th. Upon discussions with management and based on the phase 1 restrictions the YMCA has put into place to open safely-we feel that the best decision for our students safety at this time is to not resume classes yet. We will continue to evaluate and keep you posted. ... For a complete list of the phase 1 restrictions please check out Www.kansascityymca.org
Please note that although some stay at home orders for parts of the city lift Monday, to our knowledge at the time of this posting, Platte County is still under stay at home orders until May 15th.
