July 1 was National Postal Worker Day! According to the Smithsonian National Postal History Museum, nearly 500,000 individuals make up the postal service. The USPS is also among the most diverse federal work forces, comprised of 39% non-white employees and 40% women employees. The USPS processes and delivers approximately 472 million mailpieces each day. That's an average of 19.6 million each hour, 327,777 per minute and 5,462 mailpieces processed every second. Now more than... ever, Americans have relied on this essential service not only for basic business and personal reasons, but for necessities like medication and provisions; postal employees on the front lines have kept supply chains moving and helped maintain lines of communication. The Postal Service Employees issue was released in 1973; 10 different stamps depict various duties performed by postal employees. USPS; all rights reserved.
