Friends, here is the curious thing about the Trinity: at one and the same time, it is the most extraordinary and the most ordinary of Christian doctrines, simul...taneously the most inaccessible and the most obvious. On the one hand, there is a highly developed, technical language regarding this great mystery. On the other hand, the most ordinary Catholic simply and regularly invokes the Trinity every time he crosses himself. Our Gospel for Trinity Sunday is taken from the very end of Matthew’s Gospel. The risen and glorified Lord speaks to the new Israel of the Church: All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. This is not an ordinary prophet speaking. This is the very Word of the Father, the very imprint of the Father’s being. https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/053021.cfm

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Gospel Matthew 28:16-20 The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they all saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.... Then Jesus approached and said to them, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age." Friends, our Gospel today is Jesus’ inaugural address, setting the tone for the whole of his preaching. Mark tells us that he was proclaiming the Good News of G...od, and that this was the time of fulfillment. Something was being brought to completion. What was it? It was everything that the Old Testament had spoken of. Jesus gathered up in his person everything that Israel was aboutand this is why his presence was so compelling and why following him was of paramount importance. This is why he says, Repent, and believe in the gospel. The Good News is him. So now it’s time to make a decision. Friends, this is the whole story. Everything else is commentary. We are meant to see ourselves in Simon and Andrew, in James and John. When Jesus passes by, we have to respond. The time is now. They got this, and that’s why they responded so promptly. Now here’s the catch: to follow him means to do what he does, to call other people to the kingdom. Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men. That line is addressed to all of us, to all the baptized, to all the disciples. https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/012421.cfm

3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle B) - Gospel Mark 1:1420 Repent and believe in the Gospel. After John had been arrested,... Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel. As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen. Jesus said to them, Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men. Then they abandoned their nets and followed him. He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. Then he called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him.
