Another quilt in the making for Sweet Baby Mae. A little lettering added but with an overall thread color that does not conflict with the edge to edge background stitching color. It would be better to embroider the letters rather than quilting them if you are concerned about the backing. Lettering will read backwards on the quilt back. It is possible to pre-quilt the lettering on the top only but embroidery would allow it to stand out more.

While not quilting, I am bound and determined to incorporate spinning into the mix. Once I figure it out.
Merry Christmas!

So many pretty fabrics and patterns coming out for the holidays!
We just finished a client's quilt using an edge to edge entwined heart design. This was mixed fabric applique, including felt and textured "furry" pieces plus embroidery.
I am listening to a class being given by Hobbs batting. They are stressing that the end result of your quilt is very dependent on your fabric thread count. Remember this when selecting your fabric, especially the backing. Thin fabric will allow batting to potentially poke through solely based on the space between threads. A good quality quilt shop fabric will give better results.
Quilting in progress. This is deep, black fabric for the backing but the lights are washing it out in the photos. It is the back of the quilt. Will finish up tomorrow. I have not trimmed the threads yet. The contrast is a bold move because fabric moves so you may not get "perfect" lines. Our Gammill is computerized so it helps. There could always be little imperfections, even with longarm quilters who have done it for years and years. The guild members and FB groups help you to identify when these could happen happen and how to minimize them. Out of square quilts, fabric thread counts, the type of batting, the stitch pattern, speed, etc all come into play.
Black backing, borders will be last, on the longarm now.
Back to quilting, we just got a drop off today.
We have not been doing much since stay at home orders but we will start taking in quilts now. In the meantime I have been collecting my own fabrics, such pretty designs out there right now!
