Today was Picture Day at Neptune Society St. Louis.
Just a little reminder.
What if you could grant a dying person their final wish? That’s the question Memory Lane asked. They’re a no-cost service that gives patients with life-limiting illness and their families a chance to have a meaningful experience in the days before they die. https://www.abc.net.au//memory-lane-palliative-/100515102

"I think my mom would be proud: "After her mother's death, Kristen Cusato joined a clinical trial to help researchers find new treatments for others who suffer from #Alzheimers and forms of #dementia. #alzheimersawareness
Don't know why I was made to wander. I've seen the light, Lord, I've felt the thunder. Someday I'll go home again... And I know they'll take me in, And take it home. B.B. King, legendary blues singer and guitarist, who died #OTD in 2015. See more
Helpful advice from Going with Grace-End of Life Planners no matter what stage of grief you're in.
Wise man, Mr. Alda.
Who would Pooh be without Tigger, Piglet, and sweet, sad Eeyore (our spirit animal)?
If you've suffered a loss, there's probably a huge empty space that was filled up with joy and love. The love will always be there. Be kind to yourself; give yourself time to heal.
I’m just a normal person helping people, said Eileen Hollis, who will take over Hollis Funeral Home when her father retires. I don’t think any question is too crazy. [TikTok] turned into a death education platform and I’m so grateful that I can help people learn about their options.
" 'You’ll get over it.' It’s the clichés that cause the trouble," writer Jeanette Winterson says. "To lose someone you love is to alter your life forever. You don’t get over it, because ‘it’ is the person you loved."
We really this approach to #TheConversation recommended by Ina Garten in RoundGlass: A recipe for your favorite, delicious comfort food to show this is an act of love. "It’s not only good to share our feelings, but when the time comes, the people close to us won’t be anguished wondering what to do to care for us," Garten says. "They will have the comfort of knowing exactly what we wantand that’s a true gift to someone you love." #endoflifeplanning #endoflife https://collective.round.glass//croissant-bread-pudding-u0
QR codes on headstones?! Given the many memorialization websites and use of social media as a space to mourn, it may come as no surprise that this has become a way of linking graveyard visitors to online tributes to the dead! https://www.theatlantic.com//05/qr-codes-for-the-d/370901/

Born #OTD in 1928: Maurice Sendak, author of "Where the Wild Things Are." Sendak believed in the magic of childhood, the uniqueness that makes [children] see things that other people don’t see, and also in the possibility of "a happy death." Sendak, who author Neil Gaiman said was "unique, grumpy, brilliant, wise, magical, and made the world better," died in 2012. His ashes were scattered at an undisclosed location but we believe he's among the wild things.
We all have the power to bring something special, even something magical, into another life.
"We don’t like to speak about death so, too often, basic information that should be shared is not. When you consider that this is the last chance to get matters in order and assure a loved one’s dignified and proper 'send-off,' then it becomes even more critical to discuss specific information before the time arrives." https://www.sun-sentinel.com//fl-jj-opinion-isaacson-do-yo
#OTD in 1968, a funeral train carrying the body of slain New York senator and presidential candidate #RobertFKennedy traveled 8 hours from New York to Washington D.C., where he was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, just 30 yards from the grave of his assassinated older brother, President John F. Kennedy. Millions of Americans came to watch the train pass by and pay tribute to RFK. "On that sweltering Saturday afternoon, my father, older brother and I stood on a bridge,... looking down. I will never forget the scene, a snapshot of unity: old and young people, African-American and white, standing shoulder-to-shoulder," said Steven Gillon. https://www.history.com//robert-f-kennedy-death-funeral-tr See more
It’s been 77 years since 160,000 Allied troops landed along the 50-mile stretch of French coastline to fight the Nazis. A grateful nation thanks you, not just one day every year, but every day, for your service and sacrifice. #DDay #WWII
Hartford service manager Teresa McCall, who is a former US Army Reservist, attended and co-sponsored the "Thank A Veteran" event at the American Legion Post CT117. "Since my husband Kevin McCall, a Coast Guard veteran, and I recently transferred our American Legion memberships to this post, it was a great opportunity to meet some of the local veterans and Legion members, share stories and thank them for their service," Teresa said. "Neptune provided some refreshments for the ...event." #VeteransDay In the photos: Kevin McCall, left, with Chris Veilleux, the organizer of the Newington Vet Coffee House; Joe, a Vietnam veteran who shared Army stories with Teresa; Post 117 Sr. Vice Commander Carole Wynne and her service dog, Alvin; the Missing Man/Fallen Comrade Table
Thank you for your service. #VeteransDay
"As is often the case in grief, there isn’t one black-and-white answer to this question," What's Your Grief points out. Here are some ways you can talk about a deceased loved one with your children, if it feels right.
Let's all have a Scooby snack in honor of Ken Spears, co-creator of beloved cartoon series ‘Scooby-Doo,' who has died at age 82 less than 3 months after his animation partner, Joe Ruby, passed away. https://variety.com//ken-spears-dead-scooby-doo-co-creato/
"Seventy-five years is all I want to live. I want to celebrate my life while I am still in my prime. My daughters and dear friends will continue to try to convince me that I am wrong and can live a valuable life much longer."
