It’s Chiefmas Eve...Just one more sleep until the Super Bowl!:)
Thought I’d share a few pics of putting hay out this morning. We didn’t get much snow yesterday, but the 40mph+ winds made it hard to see at times...I fed today and conditions were much better! Two big bales set out and 2 heated stock tanks filled for cattle, 1 heated stock tank filled for goats and a small heated tank filled for chickens.
Preparing for a Winter Storm Warning with up to 5-6 inches of snow is not a lot of fun after going thru and Ice Storm and no electricity for about 16 hours. Frozen stock tanks are now thawed out and everyone is fed and watered and ready for round two of Winter 2020! Happy New Year everyone!
Have I told you lately how thankful I am for my tractor with a cab? A/C & heater is a wonderful thing! See everyone is lined up ready to eat!
Making some Vegetable & Dexter Beef Soup. Two crockpots full will allow us to freeze some for later this winter. Yum...it smells so good!
Happy Birthday America!
The last calf of 2020 was born today! It’s a little bull. We will call him KC Strip. The season tally was 4 polled black Irish Dexter Heifers and 3 black polled Irish Dexter Bulls that we will steer and use to stock up the our freezers. We get asked nearly every few days if we have beef for sale during the pandemic and unfortunately we are nearly out ourselves. We plan to process 2 steers in July that are on the schedule... next USDA processing dates are in Jan or Feb. It’s so difficult to get processing dates booked right now and in the next 6-7 mths.
Here are a few pics of our Irish Dexter herd sire Garth. He has an excellent disposition and is homozygous polled...meaning any offspring will be polled or hornless. All of his offspring are also black. He is not for sale now but I wanted to show him off a little.
Put the seasons’s first couple bales of hay out today. 10-24-20. Forecast is for our first inch of snow in a couple of days so getting things ready for winter.
It’s foggy this October morning, as the sun pops up over the horizon. Beautiful!
RFID Ear tagged Registered White Dexter heifer Tequila Rose today and turned her out into the West pasture. We also did a de-horning process of banding her horns. We will see if this is an effective method. She seemed to tolerate it fairly well.
Pretty pasture pics!
