*Veterans Sock Collection* Nativity alumni, John, needs your help with his Eagle Scout Project! John Sanders, Scout Troop 178, is organizing a Veterans Sock Collection for his Eagle Scout Project. The socks will be donated to the Kansas City VA Medical Center to give to Veterans who are receiving care at the Center. Socks donated may be either white or black athletic crew style. In addition, they also need to be new and in original packaging. The collection coincides wit...h Memorial Day weekend to show our appreciation for our veterans and that we remember their service and sacrifice to our Country. Collection containers will be located before and after Mass at Nativity of Mary, St. Bernadette Catholic Church and The American Legion Tirey J. Ford Post Number 21 through May 31, 2021 (Memorial Day Weekend). There will also be a drive by drop off after Mass Memorial Day Weekend at Nativity of Mary.

Our school Christmas program and Parish "Readings and Carols" have gone virtual!! This year, we will provide a combined virtual event that will include a Nativity skit, scripture, poems, carols, and choral pieces. This is a prayerful & joy-filled way to begin the Christmas season with your Nativity family! 2020 SPORTS MEMORABILIA ONLINE AUCTION The Nativity PTO has committed to raising $30,000 each school year for the Nativity Scholarship Fund. Due to Covid restrictions, we were unable to meet our annual scholarship goals with revenue from the 2020 auction. We know everyone loves to celebrate our hometown team, so we are providing an opportunity to help PTO raise funds for scholarships and provide Christmas Gifts for your favorite fan! We had so much fun in music today learning about Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) coming up on November 2nd and preparing crafts for our ofrenda (altar)! Help make a difference this coming Christmas season! Nativity of Mary is proud to participate in these drives to help those who need it most. One of our can...tors, Caitlin Stegeman, will be collecting donations in partnership with Creative Innovative Entrepreneurs, a nonprofit organization that provides mentorship and advocacy to Black youth in Kansas City. CIE has organized their second annual Houseless Winter Drive and is collecting items to help houseless people in Kansas City stay warm this winter. Requested items include coats, hats, gloves, insulated socks, thermoses, hand warmers, blankets, and backpacks or drawstring bags. Donations are also being taken for a Secret Santa Toy Drive for twenty Kansas City families who cannot afford to buy gifts this year. Item donations can be dropped off in the bin in the gathering space of church. Monetary donations are also being accepted online and via Cash App and Paypal. Please consider a donation to one or both of these two causes, and remember that The things you take for granted someone else is praying for. The last day to donate is December 19th. Hello Nighthawks!! Musical Auditions are open to all students in 3rd through 8th grades. This year all students have the option of an in-person or virtual option for the audition. In-person auditions will be Tuesday, October 20, 2020 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm in the Parish Hall, please enter the 40 HWY door. Students will have the option of signing up for an in-person audition time between 6:30 and 8:30 pm through the sign-up genius link that was emailed OR can send an audition vi...deo virtually to Miss M at [email protected]. Virtual recordings need to be sent by next Friday, October 23, 2020. If in-person audition time slots get all booked up and you would like an in-person time, please email Miss M and something can be arranged. Prepare a musical/Broadway selection that shows your personality and talents! You may pick something from Beauty and the Beast if you’d like, but you are not required to. Please bring an accompaniment CD or send Miss M the YouTube link to the music and she can play it during the audition. You may also sing the audition accapella! There will not be a pianist this year. Please email Miss M with any questions! We are looking forward to getting started with our musical journey!

CALLING ALL Families, parishioners, students, alumni, friends, businesses!! Nativity of Mary Islands Project has officially begun! When the new church was built in 2003, the church parking lot was also constructed in a way that included parking lot islands. In these islands, there were Ash trees planted that have unfortunately caused a problem and have since been removed. The parking lot islands have since looked less than perfect. Members of the parish council and liturg...y committee have come together to work on a plan to beautify the parking lot islands, which is how the brick project was born! Families, parishioners, students, alumni, friends, businesses, you name it, are all invited to purchase a personalized brick that will be placed in our parking lot islands for years to come. Please see the attached forms for information on how you can purchase a brick or multiple bricks for you and your family! Today at Children's Mass we had special opportunity to award the Madeline Sutherlin Scholarship to 7th grade student, Bailey Ortner! Mrs. Sutherlin was, and continues to be, a pillar of the Nativity of Mary Community. The scholarship was established by her children in honor of their mother and to be given during Mrs. Sutherlin's birthday month of September. The scholarship is awarded to a student that puts forth great effort in their academics and demonstrates Christian qualities. We were so excited to welcome Madeline's children, Janet Wagner and Mike Sutherlin, to be present during the announcement of this scholarship today. Thank you to the Sutherlin Family for this Scholarship Award and Congratulations again to Bailey Ortner! (And Happy Birthday to Mrs. Madeline Sutherlin this coming Sunday!)
