Congratulations to Missouri Business Alert, which has received a $310,000 grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. This is Kauffman's sixth grant to the J-School's digital business journalism newsroom. The Kauffman Foundation has been foundational to Missouri Business Alert’s growth and success, said Professor Randall D. Smith, the Donald W. PULITZER PRIZES: Congratulations to the following alumnae who were awarded Pulitzer Prizes this afternoon as individuals or as part of teams: Dr. Marcia Chatelain, BJ ’01, professor of history and African American studies at Georgetown University. Chatelain won the Pulitzer Prize in History (Books, Drama and Music) for "Franchise: The Golden Arches in Black America" (Liveright, an imprint of W.W. Norton; 2020). Jaimi Dowdell, BJ ’01, MA ‘04, investigative reporter and dat...a journalist with Reuters. Jackie Botts, Andrew Chung, Dowdell, Lawrence Hurley and Andrea Januta of Reuters won the Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting. Also, we want to give a shout out to AP photo editor Alyssa Goodman, BJ ’13. Although the photography staff of The Associated Press specifically the work of 10 photographers won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography, she's one of countless "unsung heroes" text, audio and photo editors who worked on today's winning Pulitzer Prize entries. (Goodman worked on the Columbia Missourian's "100 Ages: A Century of Voices" project back in the day). Congratulations to master's students Mallory Daily and Leanne Tippett, who've each been awarded a Smith/Patterson Science Journalism Fellowship. This is our first year to award two domestic fellowships, and I think our students found two very important environmental stories to tell, said Sara Shipley Hiles, associate professor and director of the Smith/Patterson Science Journalism Fellowship and Lecture Series. #MissouriMethod #MizzouMade #ScienceJournalism Mizzou

Happy Friday! My name’s Seth Bodine. I’m taking over the J-School's Instagram today. I graduated from Mizzou with a journalism master’s degree focusing on investigative and radio reporting in May 2020. Now, I’m an agriculture and rural issues reporter for public radio KOSU Radio in Oklahoma via Report for America. This photo is a flashback to when I was doing a story on a hatchery in Missouri. What will we remember from the moments leading up to the election of President-elect #JoeBiden and Vice President-elect #KamalaHarris? Will it be the raw, emoti...onal reactions of voters in the streets, the commentators offering very personal perspectives or will it be Steve Kornacki’s khakis? We ask this all in the form of a question, as we also honor Jeopardy! host #AlexTrebek. From Missouri School of Journalism professors Amy Simons, Earnest Perry and Kathy Kiely: Views of the News. Remembering Seymour Topping, BJ '43, foreign correspondent with The Associated Press and The New York Times, who died Nov. 8. He was 98.
