For more information and to leave condolences, please visit: https://www.dignitymemorial.com...//kansa/stuart-chen-9859654 Stuart was born on August 2, 1933 in Tainan, Taiwan, where he enjoyed a happy childhood with his parents and eight siblings. It was in his childhood where Stuart first demonstrated diligence, devotion, and an easy infectious laugh -- traits that served him well all throughout his life. After earning a medical degree from the National Taiwan University and completing residency and military service, he earned a PhD in microbiology from the University of Minnesota and completed a second residency and fellowship at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. While in Minnesota he also met and married Yeh-Jung Lee, a fellow scholar from Taiwan. The young couple moved to Morgantown, West Virginia, where in 1972 they were blessed with their treasured daughter, Jennifer. Their final place to call home was Kansas City, Missouri, where they settled in 1976. In Kansas City, Dr. Chen worked as a Gastroenterologist at Truman Medical Center and was also an instructor in the University of Missouri Kansas City Medical School. As teacher and mentor to many aspiring young students and doctors and nurses, Dr. Chen shared many insights and created fond memories over the years. He influenced scores of doctors and nurses and, through them, countless patients who had better health care experiences because of him. Also while in Kansas City, Stuart was active in the local Taiwanese Association and in the North American Taiwanese Medical Association. Throughout his career, Dr. Chen was invited to attend conferences and to deliver seminars around the world. He seized upon these occasions and brought his wife and daughter with him, and the three of them traveled the globe -- Stuart always the dutiful photographer capturing moments for posterity. In 2012, Stuart became an agong (grandfather) when Jennifer and husband Erik brought Margot into this world. Each time Stuart or Yeh-Jung saw or talked to Margot, they lit up as if just discovering they won the lottery. This same reaction was repeated every single time bestowing upon their precious Margot a sense of being loved as only grandparents can. Stuart was a wonderful husband, father, and agong. He was preceded in death by Yeh-Jung and Jennifer, with whom he is now reunited, and his eldest sister. He is survived by granddaughter Margot Lee-Chen Tyler; son-in-law Erik Tyler; his other siblings and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and colleagues.

Whether grieving the life of a lost loved one or shouldering the negative effects of the pandemic, there is a power in fictional stories reflecting what we are going through. Experts say that just by showing us how these characters are feeling and letting us see their grief without someone fixing it right away, it can be a huge comfort.
